My understanding of the long term is that Linux is improperly handling the
reduced hardware bit and Adam is working on a kernel patch to address this
generally.

Its not required to build a new kernel,
As long as the one you are using allows ACPI tables to be overrode from
initramfs, in which case you can place the new ACPI table into the
