I looked at the logs that are generated by the FTP Service and didn't see
any problems.
What would I use to conduct the network trace? Performance Monitor? If so
what counters?

with a static ip address and the other using DHCP. I disabled the card

just announced a utility that can do brick level recoveries of Exchange
mailboxes with out the need for an Exchange recovery Site or Forest. Works
with 5.5 and 2000. It does require a machine with enough storage to
restore the volume though.
