Hello All (and Coloeopterists in particular...Peter?)
Today we saw a Bee Beetle (Trichius sp.) in a woodland clearing near
Ardingly. Never seen one before in UK. Was not able to catch it. Definite
ID though of course not to species.
Any one else seen one and what's the likely species and status
!!!??? Er Wot

If Ash begins to struggle to maintain it's fast growing quick colonising

Why Spider bite?
Could be lots oif other reasons.
Hoiwever there will be two tiny puncture marks couple of mm apart from an
adult spider.
that should be visible with a magnifying glass if it is spider.
Steatoda nobilis is getting everywhere now, inside and outside. Probably
reducing native spider
Handling spiders is usually OK.
To get them to bite it is best to squeeze them gently against a body part.
Then its a cert. This is the most common way that people are bitten
accidentally when the spider is stuck in clothing or bedding or if it is
picked up accidentally in firewood or garden stuff

No worries. This is what the Environment agency drainage crew do every year
