Hi Penny, Do you think Ratty may help the campaign against the proposal for massive development of "London Lydd"? They've already increased the runway and put in an ILS ready for heavy jet traffic (737s, Airbus etc) in the face of strong opposition from conservation groups.
As you say in your press release, the area draws some 37,000 birds - they will soon be joined in the sky by 737s holding above the marsh, unless the LAAG, RSPB and others can stop them. How long before a 4 lane dual-carriageway is proposed to get the 2 million passengers per annum in and out? I thought that SSSIs were there to stop exactly this kind of development? Mind you, when you take a 77 tonne aircraft (of which 21 tonnes is high-octane fuel) and fly it at 250 knots within 2 miles of a nuclear power station and 37,000 birds, I suppose conservation is the least of our problems. Regards - Stuart. (I'm assuming everyone on the list already knows about all this - if not, the LAAG's site is: http://www.kentnet.org.uk/laag/index.htm ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 16:18:34 +0100 From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [Adastra] Proposed SSSI To: <adastra@lists.sxbrc.org.uk> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Dear All, Thought you might be interested in reading about the proposed 9,000 ha Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay SSSI: http://www.english-nature.org.uk/news/story.asp?ID=823 All the best, Penny Penny Green Biodiversity Records Officer Sussex Biodiversity Record Centre Woods Mill, Henfield West Sussex, BN5 9SD Direct Line Tel: 01273-497521 Fax: 01273-494500 e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.sxbrc.org.uk _______________________________________________ Adastra mailing list Adastra@lists.sxbrc.org.uk http://lists.sxbrc.org.uk/adastra http://lists.sxbrc.org.uk/adastra-archives
