We have just attached a 3590-b11 to a NT Server 4.0 Sp5. We are now able
to get ADSM 3.1.2.50 talking to the 3590 but we keep on getting I/O errors
in ADSM when we try to Label a Tape. We expect it to be related to the
Setmode parameter that ADSM I think forwards to the 3590 which does not

Hi Reinhard!
- Can 2.1 and 3.1 clients run against a 4.1 server?
Probably yes, but it's NOT supported!

As i see it, the easyst way is to run an ARCHIVE instead of using backup.
Then can specify your own management class, so you can keep the data as
long as you desiere and you won't interfear with your normal backup
routines.
I hope this will help you.

If you clicke on "Backup" then you see a list box with "Incremental
(complete)". You can select "Always backup" to force a backup of all files,
including those which have not been changed since the last incremental backup.
However this way you create for all files an inactive version on TSM.

I didn't specify -LATEST as an option so it should just restore the active

Hi Richard!
This file was part of a filespace migration for one of my clients (migration
to Veritas filesystem on a Sun client).
My biggest concern is that the client did report 0 errors during the initial
backup! The file was backed up by the client, send to the server and written

You mean the drives are all fibre connected and the library is connected
through the single Ethernet connection, right?
No, data is sent over the fibre channel connections. The Ethernet
connection is only used for tape mounts/dismounts, communication with
the library manager, and things of that
My client has the luxury of having no users on the system during the
evening backup window.
We've got this box running at a steady 90-100% CPU utilization during
the backup - and thankfully nobody's complaining!

Ronnie,
Not sure I'm reading your message correctly, but my understanding
was that the 3494 can connect to a host either via Ethernet or
Serial cable, not via SCSI. The 3590 drives are attached to the
host via either SCSI, or in your case fiber.

Interesting. Guess it's time to upgrade!

I would like to know how you can find out how much data(MB) was backup, and at
