Hello WIZs,
It has happened again. Last time it happened on 16/1/2001 and the Full

restored in order to bring the server to the normal situation.

Hy all,
last week I had to restore a Netware-Client completely (TSM-Vers.: 3.7.2).
Because I am not familiar with Netware (our Netware Administrator was ill),
I decided to restore the data with the Web-Interface. After several breaks
and retrys (the Web-Window stopped doing anything while the

Mahesh,
perhaps you are just too impatient? I have also seen startup times in the
range of 15 minutes, and our DB is only half the size of yours, the recovery
log is much smaller than yours. This was on a G40, currently on our F80 it
is much faster.
Did you watch the CPU time consumption of the
Hi,
This problem cames since ADSM. TSM only use one drive to labeling volumes in
the library, even though there are more drives available. I don't have sure
if this problem is fix in new's versions of TSM.

Hi Wanda!
A while ago I promised you that I would have our Oracle guys test the Oracle
delete with Oracle 8 and TDP for Oracle.
We started an Oracle delete with an invalid tcpserveraddress. The job
reports errors but the backup files are being removed from the Oracle
catalog!
This way
is there a way to configure my TSM server 4.1.2.0 on a windows2000 platform to
migrate only inactive files to the next storage pool???
Joachim - I'm not aware of any explicit way to do this.
I believe the best you can do is to implicitly
control it via the Stgpool MIGDelay value. It's
There is also a problem with Oracle not deleting the backups. This is the
response we received from Oracle support (we are running TSM 3.7.3):

For what it is worth, we are at 3.7.3 on an OS/390 server. The automatic delete of
the the backupsets when their retention period is exceeded does not happen. But a
DELETE BACKUPSET command did work to delete the backupset from the VOLHIST and allow
the tape to be scratched.
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone on OS390 is using the accounting function to
write SMF type 42 (subtype 14) records.
And if they are, what are they using to read them. ANy canned report pgms
availalble anywhere? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Found the error last week. Bad oversight on my part. :(

Hi,
There is an APAR open for that version for TSM. The recovery log hangs during
startup. TSM recommends upgrading to 3.7.4 this resolved my problem.
Thx

Hi all ,
I just installed TSM3.7 on AIX 4.3.3 ,
When issued dsmserv command to start the server ,
Error ..Unable to open dmserv.dsk file
so I created one manually , and added log and DB entries in it after formatting
log and dB volumes .

Shekhar,
You missed the step on installing the log and db volumes. You don't create
the dsmserv.dsk file, you let TSM create it for you with the dsmserv format
command.
Check Appendix D in the Adminstrator's reference guide.

Our environment is as follows:
TSM 4.1.2
STK 9840 Eagle Silo
Gresham Driver (ACSLS)
AIX 4.3.2
GENERICTAPE
Our drives are coming up as CARTRIDGE instead of GENERICTAPE and we can't
use the drives. Has anyone been able to resolve this problem?
Thanks!

in the last mail .
I have done this couple of time on AIX , but this is first time that

Is this a new install?
I am TSM 3.7.2 on AIX 4.3, and the 9840's are defined/supported as CART, not
GENERICTAPE.

Ray,
Physically check the library. We have a 3570 and on at least one occasion, it
pushed a tape through its slot up against the library door. Once that occurs,
the library cannot retrieve the tape from that position, and will flag it as
"unavailable" on the next access.
Now, when I load that

Well further digging and i disovered one of the two drives marked as

Rebooting the drive and restarting TSM, TSM polls the drive then marks
it UnAvailable. I
Sorryfound my answer: 'vary online', cross-referenced in 'help

it works for db log volumes as well.
