Hi *SM'ers
An old topic to the ones familiar to this list : does anybody have a nice tip for
deleting Informix logs from TSM server ? My problem is that we're now using 64 bit
version of Informix, and that the version of Expire.c utility we used before doesn't

Hello,
I am trying to use server-to-server communication to route commands, in
particular updating a password on several servers at once. If you update a
password locally (via upd admin) on the TSM server then the password gets
concealed but when using routing a lot of messages are generated
One note to correct. Below we selected round-robin rather than standard
mode.
Thanks again.

Hello Jacque
You can do this by creating another node, (for the special directory), and
create another Client Scheduler, and a new client schedule. Just associate
the new node with the new schedule, and thats it.

We are running TSM 4.2.2.0 on OS390/2.10 and we are in the process of
replacing our mod 3 dasd with mod 9's.
Currently I have a disk storagepool with a mixture of mod 3 and mod 9 dasd

as mod 3.

Hi *SM-ers!
I have got one TSM client (4.2.1.0) which skips /VAR during an incremental.
dsmc i /var works fine, there are no errors in the dsmerror.log.
Does anybody know what could be the cause of this?
Thanks in advance!

What I have noticed over the years (in AIX environments) is that TSM spreads
the load out across its direct access volumes.
Say you have 9 logical volumes across 3 physical and you have 3 inbound
client sessions...
TSM will spread that inbound traffic across 3 of its (locical) volumes.
If you have
Are you sure it skips /var ?
Could it be that /var is just a subdirectory under the filesystem / ?
(and you don't see ~...processing file system /var...~ ? )
I'd also double check the include/exclude list specified in the dsm.sys file
for the tsm server being used.
I'd also check the restart data

We just went through the same process and changed all our Disk Volumes to

daily migration process only. It was never noticeable it but it does show

According to our standards they shouldn't use the domain statement, but they
did. They removed it from the dsm.opt: problem solved.

I'm sure /var is one of the directories TSM excludes by default (as is
/tmp), and always has been.
You will probably need to use an include/exclude list to include it in your
backup.

With retain extra, does that mean
A) X days from the time a file goes inactive

B) X days from the creation
One of these days I'll learn to THINK ! ! !
I said B) and then gave the statement of A) (sigh, can I go home yet???)

I am assuming you mean NT 4.0 versus 2000 (or higher).
The exclude works for me. Some things to check:
- Double-check your client options set and verify the syntax of the
statement.
- Double-check that this options set is specified for the node
ANR3.VCU.EDU.
- From the client machine run DSMC
APAR IC35399 has been opened for this.
Until a fix is available, do not use server-to-server command routing.
Rather, connect to the target server to run the command. This goes for
*any* command that contains a password (not just UPDATE ADMIN).

We purchased a NetAppliance filer and consolidated all of our File servers
to it. The filer has a snapshot utility that makes restores a lot faster and
easier. I believe part of the problem with restoring to NT is that the OS
cannot create the files fast enough to keep up with TSM.
