A very important question you need to answer is:
Are you are running Data Protection for SQL
backups using multiple stripes?
If you are, then you need to keep the data on separate tapes.
That is because during restore, you will also be using
striping and therefore those tapes will be

Is the TSM Windows 5.2.2 server supported on Windows 2K3 ?
When I check in Passport for what I can download, it says:

I thought it was a little odd that
Hello,
I'm having difficulty getting a drive back on-line. When I perform a q
drive, it says that it's on-line, but the q path show that it's not. My
server is running 5.1.6.2. Any advice or assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you,

As far as I know, under Windows it's just a matter of reporting back the
right errorlevel.
I experienced also a problem with the TDP for Oracle (Rman) reporting.
In both cases I had to set the returned errorlevel (by the script) from 3 to
2 to get the TSM-server report the failed backup.

Greetings, *SM folks.
I'm working on a design for installation of a new set of TSM hardware, and a
set of several servers to run on it. I'm interested in having some other
folks look over what I've planned, and invite tomato-throwing.
Anyone interested?

The command script you run for the TDPExchange needs to complete with the
correct return code. If you are using the sample, this should be the return
code from txpexcc.exe. Some of the TDP sample scripts run this by the start
/b command. This will put the command in the background and return right
What I did was create another report that goes through the activity log

Anybody know of any other error messages I need to be looking for?

Thank you, that worked. I'm obviously a novice but improving.

I just discovered the following in the Administrator's Reference for
the 5.2.2 level of the Linux TSM server, as part of the documentation
for the 'register license' command:
drm.lic
License for Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition (this includes
server-to-server virtual volumes for database
Also, if you've swapped out the drive with a different one, make sure that
the serial number is updated. TSM will not let you use a drive/path with an
altered serial number for security reasons until you change that to reflect
the new drive.
(went through a three-drive-swap recently...)

Thomas, I have implemented a TSM for Linux DRM environment - it is full
function as of December (5.2.2.0, 5.2.2.1, 5.2.2.2).
Someone in pubs should update the Admin Ref as both the 5.2 original book
(anrlrf51.pdf) and the current 5.2.2.x book (anrlrf522.pdf) contain the
same text.

Dear Del,
I'm using single stripe (STRIPes 1) for TDP for SQL.

My client has an existing TSM setup that is quite different from the
textbook examples ;
They are running TSM v5.1.5.4 on Windows 2000, and also have DRM.
Currently, they are keeping seven (7) versions for 150 days, and the
backups are going to a 6TB array. That's right -- currently, there is
Weird requirement.
Not something that I'd recommend. And I don't see the logic for having only part of
the data, but, its an intellectual challenge as to how this can be done.
Try this
Set up a random diskpool big enough to hold one nights backup. Point backup at this.

Hi
Have you looked at the option of generate backupset and also look at the option of

It may help you with your requirement.
