Automated DRM volume handling LTO 3582 library

2004-03-08 Thread Alex den Hartog
Hi listers, Is anyone using this new LTO library from IBM with TSM / DRM? And if so, how are you performing your automated daily checkin / checkout routines for your DRM volumes? Any tips would be very much appreciated! Thanks, Alex

IBM's registration required web site www.ibm.com/support has been unresponsive since at least yesterday. I filed a problem report yesterday, but still no resolution. It's like they have no system monitoring to assure availability: customers should not have to perform the role of quality

I just installed on at a site, but the are using Autovault instead of DRM. Autovault is configured to check out the volumes REM=NO CHECKL=NO. Then they just open the library, pull out the tapes called for by Autovault and put a scratch tape in the slot. then I have a scheduled checkin SEARCH=YES

Hi Bill, Thanks for that. Unfortunately, the AutoVault option is not possible. The funny thing is: When I was using a 3570 Magstar MP library, there were no problems at all, as the library would just wait for me to give a reply when the cartridge was ejected into the I/O station. After upgrading

For DRM I would just First, to get the list of tapes: query drmedia * wherestate=mountable source=dbbackup Then to actually move them: move drmedia * wherestate=mountable source=dbbackup remove=no tostate=vault TO get a list of tapes that are offsite ready to come backup: query drmedia *

Windows 98 is inherently insecure, no log-on is needed to access those files. That said, the way I would do it is to share that data over the network to a secure computer with Windows NT or better and back the data up that way. Orville L. Lantto Datatrend Technologies, Inc.

The qmgr0.dat qmgr1.dat are the files used by windows auto update service. I exclude these from backup or I turn off auto update service. The rest look like files that make up the user profile. I personally exclude these also. I have no need to restore them.

You could do a command line restore and specify -dirsonly and restore just the directory structure over the top. Then push down the permissions on the files. Works great if your permissions are assigned at a top level and all subdirectories inhert and you are using DRMC. It gets tedious if
