Hi all
One of our 5.1.6.0 Windows 2000 clients has started running very slowly.
The data transfer rate is fine, but the length of time it's taking to check
through it's files has increased from approximately two hours to over
seven. Any ideas where I can look to see what's happening here?
Thanks

If you are using a unix client you can create a seperate servername stanza
that references an include/execlude that uses the 7year archive (and one
that uses the 1 year archive in a diferent stanza), if you are using a

You could maintain 2 include exclude lists, one specifying the 7yr
retention, the other specifying a 1 year retention.
Then, setup 2 stanza's in the dsm.sys file, each pointing to their
respective include exclude lists.
If you name each stanza something like
Servername arch_7year
Nodename
Consider simply using -ARCHMc= on the 'dsmc Archive' command
line to flexibly select the management class and retention period you
desire.

We use the Domino TDP's to backup our Lotus Notes servers. Backing up the Lotus Notes databases with the regular TSM Backup Client used too much of our resources. The architecture is such that even using incrementals, they were using up tapes faster than we could order them. Each Lotus Notes

The senario you use for SQL databases would only allow restore to the

While there are a lot of potential causes here, the first thing I would check
is that some other process hasn't started running during backups.

Mario,
We've been using St. Bernard OFM 9 in conjuction with TSM 5.2.2 (client
vers. of course) to backup both our GroupWise 6, and now GroupWise 6.5 servers
in the last year without problems. We've also done successful restores of the
GroupWise servers.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could also look into file level, or pool
level snapshots. Both can be done natively with NSS, but I never got farther
than researching, so ymmv.

We use RAID 5 (5+1) on a Clariion using 146GB drives. We peak the drives at
over 55MB/sec, sustained speed is over 45MB/sec. How fast are you reading and
writing to your disks? If it is faster than your SAN storage can read and
write from RAID 5 then mirroring or striping is a better choice,
Hello All!
I tried to run the following select statement to find out how much data is

Hi Iain,
Yes, it's very beneficial. Thanks! Here is my output. I am just trying

No worries, I got it from someone else on the mail list.
I'd like to be able to add the FS name to the query as well but haven't
managed to figure it out yet either.

We have run into a NDMP backup issue with the NAS Filer. We recently moved to

Welcome to my world. A world where I'm unable to find any good reporting

I am trying to implement a backup process where a complete set of file
copies are kept on disk in addition to tape. Our current process is a
very traditional basic setup with backups going to a single disk storage
pool that then migrates to tape during the day. After the migration
completes, the
Hi,
In our setup we are using disk caching. The only time we are seeing

multiple times in one backup window due to unscheduled full back-ups.
When the disk pool is of sufficient size to hold at least one backup run

The documentation for the clustering on the Novell client is... sparse
and a touch old.

cluster nodes.
We run an instance of the DSMCAD for the sever itself on the standard

Hi,
Has anyone heard of/used Copan Systems hardware? They make a virtual
tape library solution that has a density that I haven't seen before
(23TB in one shelf). They claim TSM compatibility (emulating a 3584

Has anyone used it with a Groupwise server?

Hi Christopher,
As far as I am aware there is no way to do what you are asking other than
keeping *all* versions of a file on disk.
The only tool that you have to hold data in a primary storagepool is the
migdelay parameter, and this is does not differentiate between active and
inactive data. It
