Hi everybody
if I back up a network share via Domain statement (DOMAIN
\\xyz.abc.ddd\k$) and the resource belongs to a cluster, backup will fail
with ANS1056E, if the cluster group moves.
Can I avoid this in any way? ( dsmc should retry).
Thanks, Karin

I second what John wrote. We have never experienced a device taking out all
devices in a zone - because we went with the best practice of one adapter -
one target per zone from the beginning.
For clarity and sanity sake, use aliases for each device host side and target
side and a naming convention
I agree with the best practice though it generally depends on your budget
infrastructure. Eg 20 HBA's in a P595 Series would pretty much be a draw. If
you want to be pedantic you should have separate HBA's for host as well if
running LAN free.
My experience to date if you have separate

I have been pondering this for some time. There are pros and cons
either way (vtl vs SAD (serial-access disk).
VTL Pros:
- Works with LAN-free backups. SAD does not.
- Most of the newer VTLs either have data reduction technology, or
have it on their roadmap. By data reduction I refer to

Mark,
Looks like this pin is 'stubborn', as the successful completion of the
database backup for last three days, did not clear the log. AFAIK, this
has not happened before.
What would happen to the uncommitted transactions if the TSM service is
recycled?

Hi Karin,
If the network share goes away (for whatever reason), the TSM client will
not retry it.
You could try scripting something up that invokes the TSM client (e.g.,
dsmc i \\xyz.abc.ddd\k$), interrogates the results for ANS1056E, and
retries the operation once the network share is

Question is more WHY did it go unavailable? Query the ACTLOG around the time

I might have missed it, but is there a long-running client operation in

When I look at the dsmsched.log I see entries for this directory that I

Kevin,
How about taking a full export or creating a backupset of the nodes in question?
The active files on the servers won't never expire since you've changed the
management classes. And if a restore is requested for a file that is not foud
