Hi,
Cowen is probably right. The problem might be At what rate do you
create/delete these during the night?
TSM (5.3.4.2) have a timing issue regarding a fast update rate of
volhist.out. And will get a
lock for about an hour until it continue its processing.
In my case I was deleting old
Hi Zoltan,
as I understand, you will be changing OS for all your TSM-instances from
AIX to Linux. There is no supported way to just simply make TSM data
written by AIX readable by another OS apart from painstakingly
exporting/importing the node data and database references.
My best guess would
Hi everybody,
I am trying to backup a very large FS with 32 terabytes, for that I have
a primary disk storage pool, with 6 terabytes of space. In the first

I have also defined one node as target, and 4 nodes as agents using
proxynode relationship to
Two possibilities Thomas.
Is /tmp symlinked to /var/tmp? The problem may not be where you think
it is.
I have known for AIX filesystems to fill up but there be no file or
files big enough to cause the problem. In Unix, if a file that is open
is deleted, the directory entry pointing to the file
Is the password directory in a hierarchy of filesystem mounts?
eg
base filesystem is /a and /a/b is mounted on it with the tsm password
file in /a/b/pass.
Problems can occur if the mount order on one machine is different to
that on the other.

Steven Harris,
AIX and TSM Admin,
How about virtualmountpoint, for a few folders, in the client options
file and have the tape stgpool collocate by filespace.
Cheers, Suad

Hi,
Install 2 linux ITSM backup clients (one on each) and one wintel ITSM
backup client, register the nodes on the itsm server and schedule the
back-ups.

You are probably running into a permissions issue.
Have you checked the VDI.LOG file?
Have you searched what others did to resolve?
I recommend that you search for this error using www.ibm.com,

Yes, I understand about the differences.
No, I was not expecting to just move the DB and viola, it works.
We are defining the boxes, brand new, and then doing export to server of
each node, or in some cases, deleting the old and just moving the

Thanks for the shortcut.
It will have to be done in phases, since the 3494 has 4-types of tapes,
besides just dealing with scratch vs private.

Thank you for the details. This sounds like a daunting and long process,
including some long outages, since I have thousands of tapes to eject from
the 3494.
Yes, the 3-tape (1-3494 2-3583) libraries, owned by 2-AIX servers are
used by 5-TSM servers, the 2-AIX and 3-Linux (soon to be 5-Linux).
Check 'q devclass f=d'. You could update your deviclass to
MOUNTLimit=DRIVES. Also check if the tape paths are online.
