Is there a way to search for a file on a client?
I have a server that has had complete backups for a long time.
Recently, when trying to do a restore, I can find a particular directory
in which the user insists existed just a few weeks ago.
Yes, I selected inactive files in the GUI.
Erwann Simon sent me the two tech notes below.
However, the lin_tape installation did not create anything like them, not even
the /lin_tape/by-id directory structure.
Does anyone out there have a udev .rules file to create such an animal?
I've tried to make one, but can't get but one device to
Few things to consider
1) Are the HBA's for the LTO5 Drives dedicated or do they have other
devices.
2) How many LTO drives per HBA?
3) Speed of Fibre 2/4/8Gb

I have setup LAN-free backup, but sometimes the storage agent causes
reservation conflict. The only way to remove this conflict is the following
command on storage agent:
# chdev -l rmt0 -a reserve_type=persistent
and then
# chdev -l rmt0 -a reserve_type=reserve_6
Here a library manger controls
Thanks Charles. Yes, these are issues to consider. I was really just
looking to see what other people were getting. HBA's are dedicated 4/
HBA on 8 Gbit cards. I have a feeling it is a device driver issue, or
an issue with the IO cards in the Quantum. Since they are HP drives,
I have to use
Don't forget that one performance factor is file type. Biggest will gain more
performance than smaller.

OK, so the storage agent gets a drive and doesn't appear to release it when
completed?
TBH - I've only ever had reservation conflicts on windows clients. You are
100% sure the paths are correct i.e. drive serial numbers match up on client
and in the path defs for it?

ever-increasing data rates on the same computer they've been using for years,

Whether journal based backup is recommended for all Windows boxes? If we
don't enable journal will it be always full backup?

For any node in domain DOM1 default management class MGMT2 will be used (see-
Default Mgmt Class ?: Yes), if any other is not specified in OPT file.

Journal based backups do not always make the backup faster, so I would not
recommend it for all Windows systems. There is also overhead involved when you
turn on journaling.
TSM will do a full scan of the file systems if you are not journaling. Full
backup does not really apply when talking
I've installed TSM 6.2.2 and its related Admin Center on powerful Windows 2008

Does anyone know what IBM/Tivoli recommend for backing up MaxDB database

If I've followed your posts correctly, you are trying to run a 5.3
library manager and a 6.2 library client, and now you've added lan-free
into the mix.
The not supported status for the down-level library manager is not
there because things in general are likely to break it is because the
There's nothing wrong with your workstation. This is a known problem, and
the issue here is with the javescript engine that is in IE. It is REALLY bad
in IE6, a little better in IE7, and even better with IE8. But I would stick
with FF for now.

We can backup by using full/incremental without journal base option. Journal
base option will be useful when we have to backup the windows box that contains
too many files. The file selection scanning before backup will be skipped.

Brian,
You don't say what type of client it is, but I believe all the more recent GUI
clients have an EDITFind function.
Start the client, click RESTORE, from the top menu bar select edit Find.
It's great because you can do a search for things that start with, or end
with or contains certain
If your client runs your nightly incremental backup in a reasonable time, you
don't need the journal service.
Journal is for Windows clients that have so many files you can't complete your
backup in a reasonable time.
In my experience, this usually means 10,000,000 files or more.
Thank you Steven, but the case is different here, that's why I created
another thread. Please forget the downlevel library manger issue.
Here is more information:
TSM server (library anager): TSM 6.2.2 on AIX 6.1
LAN-free client: Storage Agent 6.2.1 + BA Client 6.2.1 on AIX 6.1
Library: TS3310
No, I think AC 6.2 only support IE 7, even in AC 6.2.2.
Good news is the upcoming AC which we are working on will support IE 8.
Thanks,
Hunter
