TSM V6 tape labels

Dear All : I am implementing a TSM V6 EE on AIX with IBM TS3200 with 4 x LTO5 drive. Is it any easy way that I can use different LTO-barcode labeling scheme for primary and copy pool ? My concerns is : DRM will be implement to handle offsite tape cycling, when offsite tape media back to the

I think most other product supply it with a working gui where as tivoli dropped the tsm web gui and has not provided tsm with any working gui for the server forcing the admins to cmd, shit tons of custom scripts and/or 3th party tooling. Working with commvault besides tsm, gui delivered with

Hi Rick! Thanks for your reply! Here are my answers, please bear in mind that I'm not an AIX expert. Is AIX waiting on disk I/O? (I/O wait state) Vmstat shows wa=9 Is AIX CPU running hard? According to topas dsmserv is top user with an average below 3%... What does iostat

Hi Oscar! Money and resources. The P-Series server currently used hasn't got the resources (CPU and memory) to run version 6. In the past we decided to install TSM on a frame along with other servers. The frame is currently full, so if we want more resources for TSM, we will have to move other

I may be wrong, but the only way I know to divide media is by device class, so I do not think you can do it in 1 library with 1 drive type. Why the concern about using 1 pool of media for both primary and copy? DRM will take care of what tapes go where. Andy Huebner -Original Message-

If you really want to do this, the only way I can think of is to partition your library. I believe the TS3200 does support this. You said tape may be reused by the primary pool. What is the concern with this? This is the standard way TSM operates and I'm not sure why you would want to keep them

There is an option for sequential access storage pools where this can be done, at least there always has been. See the section in the Admin guide referring to defined volumes. It allows you to define particular volumes to be used in a storage pool. Not sure what version your using but I think

Hi, Victor. You can pre-define volumes into storage pools with the define volume command. Set those stgpools to maxscratch=0 and you should be able to avoid having the wrong volsers used in the wrong pools. See the Admin Guide, Chapter 2, Concepts, for Defined volumes and scratch volumes

I have no authoritative source, but two different IBM staffers have commented that a new GUI is in development. Much more like that used for the IBM-XIV SAN, apparently. That tool is very well designed, IMO, but I can see squeezing all the components/complexity of TSM mgmt into it will take

Considering that I've gone the other direction, from the contents of a tape to the backup date of every object on the tape, it should be possible, but it might not be practical; the TSM V6 DB tables aren't indexed very well for this kind of work. Complications might include inactive copies of
