Moving a TSM V6 database

2013-01-09 Thread Bill Boyer
With V5 I was able to move TSM from one computer to another if the database/log files were on attached storage (SAN) as long as I mounted them to the same path that is in the DSMSERV.DSK file. Now with TSM V6 and DB2, if all by db/log/archlog/. files are on attachned SAN LUN's, is it possible

TS3500 test environment

2013-01-09 Thread Thomas Denier
I am in the process of setting up a test environment for our Version 6 TSM servers. The servers run under zSeries Linux and are currently at the 6.2.2.0 level. The main motivation for setting up a test environment at this time is to support an upgrade in the near future. Our production

Deduplication candidates

2013-01-09 Thread Thomas Denier
We are evaluating the potential usefulness of TSM deduplication on our Version 6 TSM servers. The servers run under zSeries Linux and are currently at the 6.2.2.0 level. We would not start using deduplication without upgrading to 6.2.4.0 or higher. Parts of our workload, such as database backups

I agree that we would not be able to retain a control path to the partition when all the tape drives were gone, but that would not in itself be a problem at times when we were not performing tests involving tape activity. The question is whether the TS3500 firmware would allow us to remove all the

On TS3500s, I believe the library control interface for a partition is assigned to one of the tape drives in that partition. Thus, with no drives, there can be no control of the partition. I believe the answer is that this is not possible - you must have at least one drive assigned to each

Using IBM 3310 LTO tape library for copy storage pools with TSM 6.3 Had recent issues with tapes and we had 1 drive replaced. Now we have updated all the firmware and it appears that there aren't any tape issues but cant get the backup stgpool to work. ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command:

Yes, you can remove drives and control path from a logical TS3500 library that has volumes. David -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Thomas Denier Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2013 12:14 PM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re:

This can be done. I have tested copying the DB2 files, wiping away, create new DB2 instance, copy files back. The main thing to watch is the permissions. One little wrong permission, and DB2 won't start. If you want to see my procedures, email me and I will dig them out. On Wed, Jan 9, 2013 at

You need at least one drive in your alms partition with a control path, but, that drive can (I think) also be in another alms partition. Just make sure it's only used actively in either PR or in Test at one time. -- Met vriendelijke groeten/Kind regards, Remco Post r.p...@plcs.nl +31 6

Yes, been there done, that. It's even part of my failover setup. Essential, once you've mapped everything, db2icrt and set the default db path as usual during installation then run 'catalog db TSMDB1' to make the database known again to the DB2 instance. -- Met vriendelijke groeten/Kind

There is a dynamic drive sharing capability, but be aware that you cannot use it if you are also using drive encryption. At 05:01 PM 1/9/2013, Remco Post wrote: You need at least one drive in your alms partition with a control path, but, that drive can (I think) also be in another alms
