But ...
We do a sybase dump local to a remote system and ftp them to a second
offsite location. This Sybase dump is completed 1, 2 or 3 times a week
depending on how critical the database is. Also all the Trans logs are sent
to the second location as they are closed.

Take an existing NT system and add a line or change the line, in your
dsm.opt, for NODENAME to the name of the old system. Then you should be able
to access your old system data.
You may have to change the client password on your TSM server.
Make sure you either change the NODENAME option back
I would have to agree that the export node is probably the best overall
method.
Negatives:
Tape requirements would grow at a huge factor. There is no commingling of
systems. Even if you have servers with an archive name and a backup name
each name would have to be exported separately.
They can
Is there any way to recover a deleted filespace ?
I have set my tape pool to reclaim=100 to prevent reclamation.
I would recommend doing a full backup first then continue with incremental.
Maybe an Exchange log was damaged during the upgrade or some other type of
problem occurred, but the full backup has helped in tests.

You won't be able to call support unless you have extended maintenance...
TDP for MS Exchange went out of service 3-31-2002.
I got a quote for it : $99,500 for 3 years. (3 year retention on our mail
systems due to legal issues.) After some complaining, I pointed out that TDP
for Exchange 1.1
In testing this with our original Exchange 5.5 deployment the brick level
backup and restore takes up far more resources than your typical MS Exchange
API backup. Let's say your Infostore on your 5.5 machine is 30gb in size.
Your backup will probably exceed double that size because every mail box
I use ABC it works very well. But a batch job will have to be created. I
wrote my own, there is one that is included with the product, very generic.
But a normal command looks like this:
ABC incremental /summ=(append,file='summfile') 'device':
'params'/ignore=interlock /class='man_class'
Before I place a call, can anyone shed some light on this error. I can not
find a reference on IBM.

Has anyone run an Export node for Exchange data ?
For instance: I have a node that had the incorrect MC assigned in the opt
file. My deletion process that runs on the TDP client deletes excess backups
but keeps 1 per month for 18 months.
I ran a q occupancy and found that there were 360 backup
I am using TSM Server 4.1.1 on Aix 4.3.3. NT client version 4.1.3
MC_current is defined as versions exists 21, versions deleted 21, retain
extra 21, retain only 90 and set as the default management class.
NODE1 does not have an include so it defaults to MC_current
My retention requirements
Over the last week or so I have noticed a huge reduction in free tapes in my
jukebox, I have done a lot of searching and found the following.
Node Name TypeFiles
Space Space
OccupiedOccupied
SXEXSSWV1_EXCH DIR Bkup114
Please disregard, I checked the setup on each box and the admins did not
specify the Exchange Management Class I have set up, they were using a
standard MC.
Thanks for listening.

Is there a way to bind files to a new management class from the TSM server ?
I have 6 Exchange systems that no longer exist and we need to rebind the DB
backups to a different MC.

I am only in the testing phase of clustered NT backups, but I have a few
questions.
Is the W2K cluster local to the TSM server ?
Does the TSM server also have a 100Mbit nic ?
Are there any other backups running to the TSM server at the time ?
Is there other LAN traffic at the time of the
Something to keep in mind for compression. In areas with limited bandwidth
the compression of files can speed up your backups considerably. The
drawback, which I have encountered and just have to deal with, is that when
compression increases the size of the file it is not sent.
That is good,
Make sure you have wait for tape mount checked.

I'm not sure what you mean. We currently use long term retention for legal
issues and have never had a problem with any of our restores. Like wise we
have done many full server recovery tests that work with no problems at all.
As a matter of fact in our test W2K lab we have done entire 5.5

Hi Tor,
Is there anything that is being displayed in Event Viewer in either
Application logs or System Logs that corresponds to the same time as your
Scheduler Service failures ?
Also, unless you have a particular requirement for retaining your logs for
more than a week you could try setting
Check to make sure there are no errors in your log file and that a schedule
was successfully pulled. If a schedule is being pulled the scheduler was
running successfully. If there is no schedule being pulled your scheduler
may be dying for a different reason.
The command I use.

We tied notification to our SNMP monitoring system. By enabling the Error,
Warning and Informational messages through TSM. It took some time to reduce
the flood of codes to the most important. But well worth the effort.
