FYI,
Not TSM, but info for AIX users.
AIX 4.3.3 Maintenance Level 9 has bug in automount.
If you have installed ML09 and are having problems with system hangs
Go to http://service.software.ibm.com and get IY22308.
Filesets that you want are
bos.rte.libc level 78
bos.adt.prof level 77

Within the select statement itself you can specify a header in place of the
default and make it the width desired.
IE: select
VOLUME_NAME,STGPOOL_NAME--STORAGE`_POOL_NAME-,LAST_WRITE_DATE
-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS_--- from volumes.
The parameter in quotes will be sent as the header, with

I want to be able to specify which storage pool that
the backup image command will use for a specific raw volume.

Diane,
Look up export server or export node. This works for me to get only the
active files copied to a set of offsite tapes.

Bill,
TSM has probably issued a mount request.
Try QUERY REQUEST and see if it show any mount requests.
If so issue REPLY nn where nn = the request number.

Richard,
This is normal for AIX. I don't know about other Unix OS's
AIX will keep the most recently read file pages in real memory unless
it is needed for something else. My S7A with 8GB ram does the same thing.

My backups run a script on the client that executes the ''dsmc inc'' command
for each file system to be backed up. The output is redirected into a log
file for each filesystem. Add up all the ''bytes transferred'' in the
log files.

Marc,
I would suggest as much RAM as you can get.
I am running an R50 with 2 Processors 200mhz each
and idle time is over 40 % even when TSM is very active,
but ram is always pegged.
Just MHO.

My 3575 L12 had to have the barcode reader replaced for this problem after
about 6 months. It seemed to pick on certain slots. IBM adjusted
twice, then replaced. I have also had some cartridges that the bar code
reader could not read, and in one case misread the barcode. This was a
tape
Lynn,
Did you activate the policy set after you made the changes?

If you are installing AIX 4.3.3 Maintenance Level 6, do not mirror
rootvg. There is a bug in ML-006 that may cause 555 in LEDS
on a reboot if rootvg is mirrored.
