We are going to be moving our SQL backups to a new TSM 7.1 server environment,
and I am thinking about changing how we manage those backups.
I am considering creating a single nodename (e.g. SQLSERVER), and having all
the SQL servers TDP clients backup under that node.

I needed to do 2 things to get my Database backup working.
1) run set dbrecovery DEVCLASS on my TSM Server
2) Verify that tsmdbmgr.env point to the correct tsmdbmgr.opt file (All files
should be in your Server Instance Directory)
3) Verify that tsmdbmgr.opt is correct configured.

One is the database backup, the other is a backup of the active log

and backup from there...so you wouldn't need TDP for Oracle...
You'd have to be careful though. You would want to do your dump using an

DB backup ends, the log pages are appended on the back, and played back
if the DB is restored.

According to his original email, the DBBackup tapes stay ONSITE. For the
DBBackup tapes to be expired via DRM and expiration they
need to be OFFSITE. He'll have to use the DEL

OK...but I was under the impression that you could not set a DB backup expire
in DRM AND run a 'delete volhist type=dbb'. Just
trying to help, but if I'm wrong, I stand corrected. :)

DRM has its own, strict discipline for managing DBbackup tapes. Once
fully implemented, according to product documentation, you should not
interfere with it via Delete Volhistory or other non-DRM commands.
