Hi TIM,
Informix Database backup via TSM is using onbar. IMHO ontape is used
for backup not managed by TSM. Using onbar you won't need to dump the
Informix Database to file but TSM backup the database online / on the
fly. And using TSM u can manage it where you like to backup: disk or tape.

If you are at Informix release 10 or higher, it's built in. Like DB2.
The
instructions on how to configure this for TSM is in the Informix Backup
Guide. Prior to that you need to license the TDP agent.
