In my book, the risk of mass data loss is too high in a dedupe storage

It's a side-by-side upgrade, and if possible I'd like to leave the existing

the upgrade if I run into any problems.

Hi Norman,
I am trying to figure out if TSM server 7.1 will support 6.1.5 z/OS
client.
The answer is yes.
As you saw in the compatibility matrix, all clients that are included with
TSM 6.3 are supported with the TSM 7.1 server. This includes the z/OS
client, albeit at the 6.1 functional level
representative says I need to get TSM 7.1 z/OS Media server which sounds
like a tremendous overkill just for client functionality.
Raised a PMR Februar 2nd. and after a little back and forth with IBM
support I got silent install working for the 7.1 BA client today. There is
a document APAR which will fix the info center entry some time in the
future.
IBM has evidently just copied the info center entry from the 6.4 version to
I can not get silent install to work. with the 7.1 BA client for Windows.
When I look into the information center for 7.1, the procedure is exactly
the same as for version 6 although the paths after unpacking the 7.1 client

in the test environment with TSM 7.1,
the database is rather small (3 GB). Did the upgrade mainly to test the new
features of the operations center, but then the spoke servers also need to be
on 7.1 to use all of them. And to see if any new bugs or (un)documented new
features show up. The new
improvement over prior levels.
In addition, TSM 7.1 provides other code improvements that can benefit
deduplication and node replication performance beyond what was initially
provided in TSM 6.3.4.200. This includes further optimization to the
expire/deref processing, improved deduplication handling of large
I'm sticking with 6.3.4.3 for the server. I haven't applied the .300
fixpack yet, but will do so soon. I'm waiting for 7.1.1 because of this
APAR:

It says in there that that APAR is not fixed in 7.1.0 (only at 7.1.1).

Thanks for the feedback, Harmeet.
It's good to hear that the Operations Center (and VE) are working well for
you and your clients.
Going forward, we expect that each new version of the OC will provide
additional management capabilities. If you have specific priorities,
please let us know so that
As an added fyi, my upgrade of 2 out of 4 tsm (6.3.3) servers to 7.1 went very
well, and the new Ops Center is performing as expected from my earlier lab
testing.
I do wish that I can override some or most of the thresholds, it
is not a priority but would be an added feature.
