various directories needed for a server instance.
In that example, they create four database directoreies; tsmdb001, 002, 003,
and 004.
Then, on page 30, under manually configuring the instance, is the following:

No, it's not !
Database directories are storage pathes for DB2 containers. They must be
empty when you'll create your database whith the dsmserv format command.
The DFTDBPATH is a kind of database root with should be located in your
TSM instance directory, witch is the directory where

It is a little confusing - even IBM doesn't always understand. The
TSM DB system tables are located under the instance directory. So,
for instance, if your instance is named tsm1, most likely the DB is in
/home/tsm1/tsminst1. The DB name is TSMDB1.
