I generally like the TS3500, but have had some issues in the last 12 months.
Two close to identical libraries in two sites running mainframe TS1120s
under mainframe VTL and LTO5's for TSM. We upgraded from LTO3 to 5,
upgraded the VTL and added mainframe drives and added storage frames of
both
We have been using a 3584 for about 12 years and have had
no issues at all with it. The only time it has been down
is for firmware upgrades, replacing tape drives (upgrade from
LTO2 to LTO4), and when we moved to our new datacenter. Very
stable and a great workhorse.

Hi Richard,
We're on Linux so we use lin_tape, which is atape for open systems. lin_tape
is free, but you have to buy a license for support. The group that supports it
might be named Enterprise Tape Systems. At any rate, we did buy a license
for it, and that has been quite handy. The
WOW - Deja Vu - We had these same problems on our 3494:
*1) The case of the frayed ribbon cable.*
*2) The case of the mysterious gripper failures.*
So, eventhough the 3584 is blazing fast, the basic
concept/structure/problems haven't changed radically!
We have just hit the 1-year mark with our

WOW - Deja Vu
Looking at updating our tape libraries for other rojects which might use ltfs.
We currently have the ibm 3494 library with 3592-e05 (ts1120) drives.
It seems that we must go to the 3584 to get access to lto type tapes, yet keep
using our e05s for tsm.
I would like to hear others experiences
We are also looking to upgrade from a 3494 to a 3584. So far as I can
tell the 3584 seems to be practically a drop-in replacement for the 3494.
