You sound like you are usd to an old-style product like arcserve or backup-exec.
TSM tapes don't work that way.
TSM backs up far less data that traditional backup products, and its tapes don't come
back on site until they are empty, which, especially for tapes created in the early
part

mm yes, you are right in saying all this. but the problem around here is like we are
in initial phase and it will be upto me to show them that we need more tapes.
Currently I have just 6 tapes (200GB each). I am going to configure TDP for Oracle
tomorrow and

You really should backup your TSM database every (working) day. If you have another
sort of tape drive attached you can use that. You can also use a file device class
and burn the files to CD.
Your number of tapes is far too small. You will learn this the hard way.
