What is the make and model of the new library and what version of TSM
server are you running. Have you checked that the version of server you
have supports your new library ?

For Instance, the new IBM TS3310 is only supported a TSM versions
5.2.7.x and 5.3.2.x and above.

Support matrix can be found at

Re: Strange archive behavior SOLVED

2006-11-14 Thread David Zarnoch

I forgot to include the Archive Management Class in the archive statement:

-ARCHMc=YEARLY

Thank you Richard!

I'm seeing some strange behavior on an archive I'm trying to perform

Here's the scenario.

I have a HUGE filesystem which I have restored from PITD 01/10/06
and am trying to archive

Unfortunately, I didn't have the room to store it on the same system
that it was requested from (node1) so I restored it to a different system
(node2)

From node2:

I then tried to archive it using the system I requested it from by issuing
the command:

dsmc archive -virtualnode=node1 /d/bureau/prm/prod/data/* -subdir=yes
-description=node1 year end PITD=01/10/06

It then starts asking me to insert tapes from the storage pool YEAR END
2003
which are stored on a shelf and have not been accessed since 01/10/2004

???

Anyone know where I can start looking?

Thanks!

What are the contents of your tdpo.opt, dsm.opt and dsm.sys? Also, where
are they placed?

Seems, there is some inconsistency in the option file path, while
looking at the line in tdpoerror.log:

And your slowest WAN connection is capable to do how much GB/Hour

If you want to predict some number, you will need this info. If you must

Hi Murugan,
That is really hard to found out exactly speed and how long time it will
take.
Take the speed you got ex. 100 MBit and divide it with 8 then do you got
maximum speed of your bandwidth. (12,5 MB/s)
If you run Windows you should probably split it with 2 then you maybe got
maximum speed from Windows.
If you run compression then will you maybe get some better performance.

But again it's hard to really find out exact speed and time you will get.
Also the performance is also depending on if you backup to disk or tapepool,
activity on the WAN link, also how old your server is and et c. Got this
questions many times when I talk about CBMR for customers.

Make a test on 1GB data and then see how long time that will take.

Re: How to calculate the thoughput on the network

2006-11-14 Thread Kurt Buff
This will mostly be a function of the [avg latency/hop in WAN] and [# of
hops in WAN] and [max throughput of slowest link in WAN] and [efforts made
to tune packet size to avoid fragmentation - that is, adjusting packet MTU
size to match WAN limitations]. For the last factor, if you're using
Windows, or just for general information, see web pages that discuss DRTCP,
a free Windows utility that allows easy access to various Windows settings
in the Registry that control the TCP stack.

Here's the fun part: Latency of any given hop in WAN will vary depending on
load. If you have a exclusive link (like a point-to-point T1 or fiber link),
then you have a much better chance of getting that reliable stats on latency
than if you've got an IPSec VPN going over an Internet connection, because
over the Internet you have no way of predicting load, unless you have an SLA
with each entity between you and your destination.

If your link is over an IPSec (or other) VPN over the Internet, I'd suggest
multiple traceroutes over a period of time (days to weeks) to determine most
likely route, including number and latency of hops. There's a tool called
smokeping to automate and graph this, if you care to work with Open Source
tools.
