You are right. Those files are not there anymore so the client sends this
info to server and they are expired according to files' policy settings,

Hi Brenda,
There are several commands we used to set this up:
DEFINE DBVOLUME /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0s4 FORMATSIZE=24000 WAIT=NO
DEFINE LOGVOLUME /dev/rdsk/c1t0d1s4 FORMANTSIZE=1 WAIT=NO
They format in about a minute and we are getting an average of
about 50-60 GB/hr transfer rate. On Exchange

Has anybody seen these errors before?

Hi,
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I am using scheduler
service for my clients for a long time and I do not have too much
trouble with them. Today I read that Tivoli recommends to use client acceptor.
Some of my clients have limited memory so using it can help me.

Hello Jozef,
I just got thru doing something like this with a similar setup:
we use Emulex LP8000 cards for the HBA's onto an IBM 3584 with LTO drives
and a Mcdata switch. There are 4 things that need to be done or it won't
work:
0. Ensure that you've moved the /kernel/drv/st.conf somewhere
I haven't seen the same thing as you. I was using raw logical volumes,
and converted to JFS. I saw little if no penalty during write, but a
big win during the sequential reads. As always, your mileage may vary,
but I would not rule out JFS if I was you.

Use TSM scripts. Here's one basic example to get you started, you'll
probably find many other examples in the archives.
/* Cleanup the scripts created from the previous runs */
delete script MOVE_DBS_OFFSITE
delete script UPDATE_DBS_REMOVED
/* Create the macro file for the checkout of DB tapes
Thank you Don and Zlatko for all the information on management classes. It
really helped. I know what we are doing is against the TSM backup ideology.
The system was originally setup to do AFS backups only, which doesn't really
use the management class. The type of backup and it's retention is
I am upgrading from 3.7.4 and would like to go to 5.1 please let me know if
anyone out there has had any problems with 5.1.

You need to tell the CAD service the name of the scheduler service to

Nothing else changed. I promise. We upgraded the server from ADSM V3.1.7

serious, UPWARD INCOMPATIBILITY.
Users running the Scheduler Client Version 4 started receiving an extra

Oh, I guess it's just my paranoid mind at work again, but DELETE DBVOL
scares me. I'm using it to migrate the TSM Database from old disks to
new, faster disks.
So, I attached the new dbvol and its mirror, fiddled with EXTEND DB and

Julie,
You could set up scripts that initiate dsmadmc to do the commands.

Del,
Thanks for your help. I created a new node and created a new schedule that
does a full selective backup. But then, I realized that I am still using
the same management class with the normal retention period of my

IMO, I think this is a moot issue. The 1st thing 'delete dbvol' does is
move any db data from the subject dbvol (both mirror-halves, because they are still
sync'd) to another dbvol - but not to the other
mirror-half. Both of the mirror-halves be empty when the 1st 'delete
dbvol' completes.
Nevermind I figured it out...I was putting the -pas before the q sess and
it didn't like that..

Having 90 GB daily change you are very very close to the limit - for real

No.. normally when you first install the client on linux, even with

something such that it asks for your login and password. Once done, it saves
the password in an encrypted file and won't ask you again in the future.

You need to use GRANT AUTHORITY on the admin account after you create it to

In investigating a tape drive problem, I found the output from the Show Libr

RMT2 (/dev/rmt2):
type=8, mod=48, busy=1, online=1,
polled=0, available=1, createPending=0
priorReadFailed=0, priorWriteFailed=0
The problem is not in the server. I had PMR open on this and the answer
was - it would be fixed in 4.2.2 client (not server). The problem is
client displays wrong data not server returning wrong values.
So whatever is the server - we have to wait for 4.2.2 client. Have anyone
tested it with v5.1
Geoff,
there is one small difference - gzip is GNU freeware, WinZip is
proprietary shareware. Its usage without paying the license is in fact
illegal.
I personally still prefer gziptar and am happy with them. zip/unzip are
also freeware and stable so I always keep them handy.
Just (my) opinion.
You can delete (copy) dbvol even without reducing the DB and having it
almost full. If the dbvol to be deleted is a mirror copy TSM LVM breaks
the mirror (no any data move) and just deletes volume entry.
Actual data move happens when you move primary/last mirror copy of the
dbvol in question. And

To my knowledge this is the only way it is possible. I have done some
