I've seen this several times before and let it go, after a while it finished
successfully.
I think I read this issue before in this list and the answers were that this is
a normal behavior for the TSM server doing an audit.
So there's still hope

I was hoping to setup a centralized script that I could update rather
than have to maintain scores of opt/cfg files (currently a dozen
machines with 3 instances per machine - and growing)...
So, could I accomplish the same thing by doing:

EventCons is a file that is in use by MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) and so
far I haven't found a way to include it in any backup.
I exclude it from any Windows backup, the MOM has a MS SQL database that can be
included in a good working backup.

Goran - This may be a locked, rather than open, file.
This may be one of those problematic files which need to be
excluded from general backups, to be backed up by some means
prescribed by the subsystem which is managing them.

that your filesystem has gotten spread out across a lot of tapes. So it
mounts a tape, spins up to the right location, and gets blazing speed.

found that in 5.3.2.1 with a Library Server Manager (ours
handles a 3494 and a 3584 four 4 TSM servers on separate
machines) under some circumstances as yet undtermined a
volume that goes thru

I saw the posts telling you to exclude it. It is funny that I've seen the
ntuser.dat file get backed up with TSM open file support. The OS has an
exclusive lock on it. I think it is odd that open file support can't back up
the file you listed.
Could you try using the baclient to backup
I had the unable to open timer file message before. All the hits on
supports searches had to do with permissions or something wrong with the
services configuration. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the TSM
services, making sure that those reg entries are totally removed after your
uninstall.
Oops. Just reread that and realized your message dealt with TCPCADADDRESS
and not TCPCLIENTADDRESS. Sorry. I would still try reinstalling the
services and/or upgrading to the 5.3.2 client though.
