Well, even with current TSM levels I would only use 15kRPM disks in
RAID1. DB2 has no software mirroring, but your OS might very well do
the job for you, I know that Linux and AIX can, and I think recent
windows levels can do the same. RAID5 or RAID6 are great technologies,
but I don't believe that they mix very well with high performance
databases, not for TSM = 5.5, and not for DB2 either.

SATA disks are only useful in very small TSM environments (up to a few
gig database), and well, that wont change much with DB2.

ANS3402W and ANS1067E error -solved !!!!!!

2008-12-21 Thread Robert Ouzen Ouzen
Hi

The service Virtual Disk Service must be set to Manual

Regards

Robert

Hi to all

Tried to backup an image on a Windows Vista , Tsm client 5.5.1.10 . I didn't
use the VSS or LSVA option on my dsm.opt and used the static option:

SNAPSHOTPROVIDERIMAGENONE

INCLUDE.IMAGE C: mgimage imagetype=static

I run from the command line: backup image C: -mode=selective –imagetype=static

But always got this error:

12/21/2008 08:55:22 ANS3402W vdsInitialize: A system call LoadService failed
with code -2147023838.

12/21/2008 08:55:22 ANS3402W vdsInitialize: A system call LoadService failed
with code -2147023838.

12/21/2008 08:55:22 ANS3402W dmCheckPltfrmInit: A system call vdsInitialize
failed with code 6201.

12/21/2008 08:55:23 ANS1228E Sending of object '\\cc117466-2345\c$' failed

12/21/2008 08:55:23 ANS1067E A call to a system function returned an unexpected
error.

12/21/2008 08:55:23 ANS1813E Image Backup processing of '\\cc117466-2345\c$'
finished with failures.

Tried to search the meaning of the error ANS3402W and ANS1067E , they point
to a snapshot local !!! How come ?

I think it something relate to a service not loaded correctly maybe ?

Any other suggestions ?

T.I.A Regards

Robert

What is your opinion of placing the DB2 database on a DS8300 or any
other high end SAN? (RAID 5 only, all 15K drives) parity write overhead.
Is it possible to access both a DS-4200 and a DS-8300 from the same pair
of FC cards? Different multipath drivers.

SV: 5.4 -- 6.0 (server)

2008-12-21 Thread Christian Svensson
Hi Mate,
By the TSM 6.1 Beta documents you will only be able to go from TSM 5.5 to TSM
6.1.
If you wanna go from 5.4 you are recommended to upgrade from 5.4 to 5.5 first.

I haven't finish my testing yet with upgrade from 5.5 to 6.1 yet because you
can't install TSM 5.5 and 6.1 as default installation in Windows. And the Linux
version of 6.1 Beta has just been released.
But as I understand do you need to upgrade even 5.5 to a 5.6ish version.
But their is a 6.1 Beta forum that you can ask this kind of questions. I think
it is really important that the TSM Development team can read all questions and
ideas in one place.

No. the RDAC and the SDD won't play nicely over the same HBA(s). The host
will only see on of the subsystems. I mistakenly did this and if I remember
the SDD took over and the host didn't see the RDAC volumes until I removed
the SDD volumes. Then I saw the RDAC volumes and remembered I forgot to
change the zoning.

Have you looked at the IBM SAN Volume Controller? You can have lots of
different storage subsystems behind the SVC and only need the SDD on the
hosts as the SVC presents a common front end to the hosts.
