You're obviously running with an old software level.
IBM documents 1219973 and 1238577 suggest using level 5.3.5 or later.
I doubt that your Define Drive commands specified GENERICTAPE, meaning
that you ended up with that because the software didn't understand the
technology. Never proceed to use definitions when they didn't produce
what you need to properly operate.

The TSM server has a single purpose...Notes/Domino backups.

 I'd give DOMDSMC Query DBBackup * /INACTive

unexpected management class binding retention policy which is
keeping the logs from going away.

Yes! We had this problem once, solved it by using that command and
finding some really old backups still active. There were some ancient
*.NTF files that were logged and were hanging on to the *.TXN files in
TSM. I forget exactly why those *.NTF files were not getting backed up
again, or why they were logged...

 domdsmc incremental mtdata/mtstore.nsf

If mtdata/mtstore.nsf no longer exists, the above command should
inactivate it.
After that, try rerunning the domdsmc inactivatelogs command again.

Hi Zoltan,

In this case, I recommend you place a call with IBM support.
The IBM service team can gather a trace and find out exactly
which backup is keeping the logs from inactivating.
(If that is indeed the problem.)

If you are adventurous, you can turn on tracing like this:
   domdsmc inactivatelogs /traceflag=service /tracefile=trace.txt
and peak through it. It's not for the faint of heart...

Thanks,

Re: Remove exclusions

2009-12-07 Thread Avy Wong
Thank you Howard for your response. I submitted a PMR to IBM to get help. I
found out two things:

From the 'q inclexcl' out put Excl Directory C:\adsm.sys Operating System
.. This directory is excluded via the operating system by default. I guess
this is part of the defaults in the newer TSM client. Prior to sending in
the email to ADSM forum for help, I did check the dsm.opt as well as going
through the Baclient GUI under 'preference' to see if I can fix it from
there but nothing and yet it keep pointing to adsm.sys folder. Later to
find out it is not the exclude problem.

The dsmerror.log shows a failed 12 error everytime it hits this.
'C:\adsm.sys\EventLog\Microsoft-Windows-Forwarding/Operational.evt'
I found out the real hold up was the registry key. The solution IBM
support suggestion is to update the following in the registry from

 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog
\Microsoft-Windows-Forwarding/Operational]

  to

 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog
\Microsoft-Windows-Forwarding-Operational]

Now all is happy,.Not a creature was stirring, not even a
mouse Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night

There is a problem about old archives. Some files data archived by BA Client on

export node ... -filed=arch will do the trick.

'help export node' is your friend in this endeavor.

Subject: [ADSM-L] Moving Archive Data to another TSM Server

 Hi All,

We have TSM 5.4 server on an AIX machine with LTO1 library. We purchased new
AIX machines and LTO4 library. We installed TSM 5.5 to new system. Both of
two tsm servers are on the same network. We won't transfer old backups to new
TSM. They will expire after some time. Clients (Windows and AIX) will begin
backups to new  TSM 5.5 system.

There is a problem about old archives. Some files data archived by BA Client
on windows clients. How can I transfer archive data to new tsm server without
 retrieve?

 Thanks

 Alper
