return export volume to scratch

2002-03-08 Thread Martin, Jon R.

Good Morning All,

I have a tape volume that was used to export a node. I would like
to check that volume back in as scratch. I'm having trouble finding the
answer.

Here is an excerpt from the actlog showing what I have tried.

ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: CHECKIN libvolume 3575lib
0ACFB3 status=scratch checklabel=yes
ANR8443E CHECKIN LIBVOLUME: Volume 0ACFB3 in library 3575LIB cannot be
assigned a status of SCRATCH.

ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: LABEL libvolume 3575lib
search=yes labelsource=barcode checkin=scratch
ANR8816E LABEL LIBVOLUME: Volume 0ACFB3 in library 3575LIB cannot be
labelled because it is currently defined in a storage pool or in the
volume history file.

ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: DELETE VOLUME 0ACFB3
discarddata=yes
ANR2401E DELETE VOLUME: Volume 0ACFB3 is not defined in a storage pool.

Any tips?

Thanks,
Jon Martin

You will need to check QUERY LIBVOLUME and make sure the volume is there and the
status is PRIVATE. Then you can issue the command UPDATE LIBVOLUME 0ACFB3
STATUS=SCRATCH then I think you will need to issue the comand CHECKOUT LIBVOLUME
3575LIB 0ACFB3 REMOVE=NO and then you can try the CHECKIN command again.

Re: return export volume to scratch

2002-03-08 Thread Copper, Steve

Jon,

You can not check the volume back in as scratch until the information in
your volume history file has been deleted for that tape. Use the command

TSM h q volhist

to see more information on using the q volhist command. This can be used
to identify the tape and then once all the parameters are correct to only
bring back the tape in question, you can change the word query to delete
to remove the entry from the volume history file.

Once this has been done the tape can be checked back in as ascratch tape.

Re: return export volume to scratch

2002-03-08 Thread Martin, Jon R.

Thanks to all for the replies,

The volhist information was the problem. Here is what I had to do

del volhist todate=+1 type=export

In this case the volume was automatically returned to scratch status
once it was removed from volhist.

Thanks Again,
Jon

2002-03-08 Thread Bill Boyer

Export volume information is stored in the volumehistory. Issue Q VOLHIST
T=EXPORT to get a list and DEL VOLHIST T=EXPORT to delete them. Once the
volume isn't listed anywhere, you can then check it in as scratch.
