Thanks for the suggestions but none of them will ever work in our chosen
configuration/environment. Since it was clarified that the web
interface/support is being removed from the server only (not the client), I
no longer have a concern.

Hi Zoltan. I suppose the approach now for a helpdesk is to have the helpdesk
folks have root access, have X11/Xwindows installed on the client, and then if
the helpdesk uses Windows, have MobaXterm or similar to provide access to dsmj.
On Windows, RDP or TeamViewer or similar might be the solution. I find that
usually in UNIX/Linux environments that people have used the Web Client. If
anyone has a simpler solution than root access and X11+Xwindows client, I would
appreciate hearing about it.

2017-08-09 Thread Shawn Drew

The web client is the mini-webserver that runs a java b/a client and
installed optionally as a part of the client software.
As far as I know, this is the only way to get a GUI to perform NDMP
restores and is the only way to access the NDMP DAR functionality.
"restore node" commands on the server do not perform DAR restores so
restoring just one file from an NDMP backup will results in a complete
image scan.
Hopefully I'm wrong and someone will correct me.

sp 8.1.2

2017-08-09 Thread Remco Post
Hi All,

congrats to IBM for the release of TSM 8.1.2, looks like almost a major upgrade!

I'm happy to learn that 8.1.2 will support NAS backup to Directory Containers.

I do have a question regarding the new way of handeling SSL / TLS 1.2: does it
really mean that once a B/A client is at the right level, it will switch to TSL
1.2? And will that be for all data, or only for the exchange of sensitive data
like passwords? And, what is the expected impact on the TSM server CPU if
suddenly a 1000+ clients start doing TSL?
