two crumple zones hitting each other vs one crumple zone hitting a wall,
makes off the cuff sense to me... two old, non crumple zone, cars
hitting each other would seem like what it would take to get a 120 mph
impact. Those crumple zones make a monster difference...

It was somewhat counter intuitive as I recall, then they went into the physics
of the situation. The end result was that going 60 mph into an immovable
object really did the same amount of damage as going 60 into a car coming at
you at 60. So the whole damage equivalent to going 120 was a
There would be the difference between colliding with an "almost"
immovable object (wall) versus colliding with a vehicle that has some
semblance of a crush zone. I don't know how much that difference would be.

Yes I would rather
Yes I would rather have a collision with another car at the difference in speed
than the combined speed of the two….

Huh….never heard them called Jersey Barriers before.
Apparently the slope on the bottom is to make your tires ride up so you
redirect back into your own lane (though possibly flipped over) whereas a flat
wall might make you flip into the oncoming lane.
Fun stuff.
