Re: [AFMUG] Generic LTE CPEs used with Baicells, Telrad etc.

2018-03-14 Thread Mathew Howard
Your best bet is probably going to be to try getting a quantity discount
from Baicells... I'm not sure if they're doing that or not, but if you have
that many ready to go, it's worth a shot.

Last I checked, there didn't seem to be a lot of options for 3.65ghz LTE
cpe with decent antenna gain... I'm not sure what else is even out there,
other than Telrad. The problem with getting anything directly from China,
is that it probably won't be FCC certified.

Re: [AFMUG] Generic LTE CPEs used with Baicells, Telrad etc.

2018-03-14 Thread Joe Novak
The only thing I have to say about that is if you intend on using the
Baicell's proprietary method of L2 to the customer (VXLAN from the CPE to
the eNB is what 'may' happen (soonTM)) you may not be able to do it, if
that matters to you. It won't break the LTE standard from what it sounds
like though.

[AFMUG] Require Recent Web Browser?

2018-03-14 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
A bit of a survey here

A couple of features I'm looking at for current/future products would be
much easier to implement using a certain feature found only in relatively
new web browsers, aka, Chrome/Firefox/Edge updated within the last year.

One specific browser feature I'm looking at is webassembly. Various tools
out there indicate that around 87% of the installed/active browsers on the
internet are recent enough for native support. Most of the browsers
gained support for this feature early to mid last year. With autoupdates
being the rule instead of the exception, anyone on a recent auto-updating
web browser should support this. I'm mostly concerned about 'the rest'.

Support for the older browsers is possible, but it adds a level of
complexity (specifically a level of testing) which I would prefer not to do
if I could get away without it.

To be clear: Almost all of the functionality of the upcoming products
won't require these functions. A specific example of something that might
require this is setting up the scripting functionality as I'm looking at
various technologies which would work best if I could run a chunk of
webassembly code in the browser as part of the code editor. However, other
than editing a script, the rest of the functionality would work fine.

Thoughts?

[AFMUG] Expenses

2018-03-14 Thread Matt Hoppes
So I got to thinking about something today.

Pretty much anything needed to run the business you can expense.

What about a surgery? Being the principle owner of a small shop I have to be
able to work. If without a surgery (say rotator cuff of something) the business
won’t run - is there a way to expense that?

Just like I can expense PPE, or switches?

Or a health savings account? What creative options do I have?

[AFMUG] Fiber Boot Camp - AnimalFarm

2018-03-14 Thread chuck
The question has come up a couple of times, when you register how much money do
you put in the box.
The answer is you have to put in at least $1 for the process to work. But $1K
also works...

That is correct Mark.

To be fair by the time Cambium (really Motorola) gave up there was very little
point left in it. Having a 450AP slow down enough to talk to a 2X FSK radio
at 14Mbps meant you might as well not put up a 450AP.We are finding it
painful to have 430SM’s on 450 AP’s for the same reason and are having to pull
those off the network due to the capacity hit on the AP’s. It’s nice that we
can do that gradually, but there is no way I would want to have FSK SM’s on a
450i or 450m AP.

FYI, Cambium is very good at this. Look at the 400 series. 430 would connect
to 450 which gave longer life to the 430s. You didn’t get all the cool
features of the 450, but the clients worked. ePMP is following the same
philosophy. If anyone out there is wanting to try ePMP can hook you up with
some great promotions. I am certified Cambium consultant and have some pretty
cool options for folks new to ePMP.

This is from the horse's mouth. It says Q1 for compatibility with ePMP 2000.

This document is from January though so maybe that firmware will be a little
later like Q2.

At some time vendors have to make a technology-jump to advance.
