Congrats on the spawn!

You missed out on some great breakout sessions. The security best practices
session with John Brown, Tom Smyth, and Kris Twomey went over an hour longer
than scheduled and could have gone for days with no complaints from me. Hands
down my favorite session.

We have high hopes for future shows. We're trying to get press passes so more
of our guys can come and interview more vendors and start micro-interviews
where we just ask random passersby for their thoughts on the show. We'll
compose that latter group into compilation videos. This year I not only
conducted 11 vendor interviews, but also moderated or participated in three
sessions. No time for other sessions and little for keynotes.

If the radios are $1500 for a pair...

Ultra high performance 4' 11 GHz dual polarity dishes are easily more than
$2000 a piece with shipping.

Plus FCC frequency coordination costs & FCC fees.

Plus surge protection, cables, and cost of labor/climbing to mount dishes.

And that's not even considering the possibility of $3300 6' 11 GHz dishes.

Some will use this as an upgrade to their existing 11GHz links and
say, radiowaves dishes they already have mounted.

I believe the FCC site had a couple of dish models and vendors the
radio was working with...

Re: [AFMUG] Wispapalooza highlights

2016-10-13 Thread Mathew Howard
If I remember correctly, our Mimosa B11 links worked out to just over $6k,
including everything (using 2' dishes)... since these radios are about $1k
cheaper per radio, I would guess the typical link won't be much over $4k.

2016-10-13 Thread Ken Hohhof
Why would you choose those radios to use with $6600 worth of dishes. That
seems like opening an expensive bottle of wine to drink with a peanut butter
and jelly sandwich.

A $6000 link? I thought the AF11x was like $750-1k/side? What kind of
dishes are you planning on using?

They have been working for awhile with various vendors to have different

Re: [AFMUG] Wispapalooza highlights

2016-10-13 Thread Kurt Fankhauser
Also as the industry keeps getting bigger with things like WISP-PAC and
stuff there are more and more attorneys showing up and being needed for
various parts of running your business, filling out FCC forms, etc. I am
proposing that these attorneys should only be allowed to charge hourly
rates based on how tall of a WISP tower they are willing to climb, so 100'
tower would be $100.00/per hour and so on lol

Airfiber 11ghz will be shipping soon, sounds like you wont be able to use
it though because the adapter to connect the N connectors to the existing
dishes out there isn't going to be here for a while, so we'll have $6000
link (with FCC fees) sitting on the bench and waiting on a $200 part to be
able to use it

I saw a graph of social media usage by age recently, and Jaime is almost old
enough for Facebook now. I think they send you a FB invitation along with your
AARP invite now.

Yeah, even your mom is on Instagram and Snapchat now, it’s your grandma who’s
on Facebook.
