Sounds like software bug - roll a ticket with IBM and ask them … make sure
latest recommended software is on switch (typically) which according to what I
can see is 7.7.5.0 from 2013

Order a few generics and maybe 1 or 2 "IBM compatible" optics from
fiberstore and give it a shot. Short of that, maybe there's a way to modify
this behavior? That's a really poor design choice if not.
