SUMMARY

This week; African Internet Summit took place in Nairobi where "The African 
Union Commission, in partnership with the Internet Society has unveiled a new 
set of Internet Infrastructure Security Guidelines for Africa that are set to 
change the way Union States approach cyber security". Also, African Internet 
Organisations has issued statement on internet Shutdown in the continent 
"calling on African governments to renounce the use of internet shutdown as a 
policy tool, and to engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders". Besides, 
the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise took place in Brussels.

On Cyberpolitics, China on Thursday launched cybersecurity law, claiming to 
ensure its national security, amid criticism from foreign companies which say 
it might hamper their operations. Besides, Russian President Vladimir Putin on 
Thursday said "patriotic minded" private Russian hackers unconnected to the 
government could be behind major hacks that interfered in other 'nations' 
elections. Moreover, North Korea has brought out its very own version of 
Apple’s iPad.

On surveillance, Edward Snowden, who exposed the existence of highly invasive 
U.S. surveillance programs in 2013, warned this week that Japan might be moving 
closer to achieving sweeping surveillance of ordinary citizens.

offers a comprehensive look at the current digital technology landscape and 
what tech trends to expect next.
On Child online abuse, The Europol police agency has shared 20 images of 
everyday objects featured in the background of lurid child pornography videos 
in the hope of tracking down paedophiles and victims of child sex abuse.
On Fake news, Facebook's shareholders have rejected a proposal which could have 
forced the social media giant to publish a report on the impact of fake news 
disseminated via its site.
On hate speech, The number of illegal posts removed by Facebook, Twitter, 
YouTube and Microsoft has doubled in the last six months, but more can still be 
done, says the EU.
