SUMMARY

This week; The United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General 
for Central Africa urged Cameroonian authorities to examine with diligence the 
difficulties of the populations and entrepreneurs of the English-speaking 
regions of the north-west and south-west, which have been deprived of Internet 
since mid-January 2017;  while AFRINIC, The Internet Number Registry for Africa 
 calls for an open and secure Internet for everyone.

On data protection, more debates and comments after the European Parliament 
passed a

 manifesting concern over the EU-US Privacy 
Shield<https://www.privacyshield.gov/welcome>, a legal scheme that allows 
American companies to transfer personal data from the European Union to the 
United States. Also, The European Data Protection Authorities (the so called 
“Article 29 Working Party”) has indicated it hopes to reach a data-sharing deal 
in the coming months with

On E-commerce, Flipkart, India’s largest e-tailer, said it had received a $1.4 
billion capital infusion from various companies including Chinese internet 
giant Tencent Holdings.
On net neutrality, The Internet Association, a trade group representing 
companies like Facebook, Google and Amazon stressed the importance of defending 
current net neutrality rules in a meeting with Federal Communications 
Commission chairman Ajit Pai on Tuesday.
On Fake news, with just nine days until the French election, Facebook has 
announced that it has action against 30,000 fake accounts in France in its 
continued fight against fake news.
