The scene in Greg Bear's "Queen of Angels" where Jill awakens to sentience
is one of very few scenes in any book I've read that has repeatedly - not
just on the first reading - brought tears to my eyes.
My copy of the book has Greg Bear's autograph on that page. Wish me luck,

The story "GOLEM
XIV" by Stanislaw Lem (not really a story, but a
fictional construction), in the book "Imaginary Magnitude", is an absolute
must-read for anyone interested in futuristic aspects of AI. What an
incredible conceptual masterwork !!! So hilarious and so
