[Ai] Android Phone with Keypad - Blackberry KEYone

2017-08-16 Thread Arun dua via Ai
Hi allWe the Visually Impaired are always on the look out for a phone with
keypad. The touch screen phones have made things slightly difficult for us
specially while traveling.I Phone and now Android with Siri and Google
Assistant, things have become better, yet we always miss the keypad.Last week
Blackberry has launched its Limited Edition Model called KEYONE, with 4GB RAM
and 64GB storage with Android OS 7.1.1. The best thing is it has a qwerty
keypad, with 52 Shortcuts (also). It is priced at Rs 39,990.Although
unboxing and reviews have already appeared on YouTube and NDTV Prime; But the
accessibility and talk back functions have not been demonstrated.A similar
Phone was launched in the International Markets with 3GB RAM and 32GB Storage
and was probably named MERCURY.Any Friends in India or Abroad who have had the
opportunity to use or test this phone, please do share your experiences; before
i consider purchasing it. Will it be any day better or similar to I Phone
 functionality.ThanksA K Dua+919876727460Disclaimer:

[Ai] Making Thunderbird Accessible. blindbites

2017-08-16 Thread soloman s via Ai
Hope you find this useful.
With warm regards
Solomon S
teachs...@gmail.com

Making Thunderbird Accessible
Posted by blindbites on August 5, 2017
Thunderbird is the e-mail client that I use. It has all of the
settings for G mail and many other popular e-mail services.
One way to download and install ThunderBird is to go to ninite and
download their installer which will make it very easy. You can go to
their accessible programs page at: https://ninite.com/accessible
Thunderbird can be very accessible but there are a few changes that
need to be made. Below you’ll find how I have the settings in
ThunderBird for my use. I use it with NVDA and this setup works very
well for me.
One of the first things you’ll find after setting up your email
account is ThunderBird’s Calendar.
I find it a pain and its easy to disable, Press tab or shift tab until
you get to:
alert Thunderbird now contains calendaring functionality by
integrating the Lightning extension. Disable button Alt+D
After pressing space bar on disable you’ll hear the following message:
alert Lightning will be removed the next time you restart Thunderbird.
You can add it again at any time using the Add-ons Manager.
You should restart ThunderBird at this point either by using alt F4 to
exit or pressing space bar on the restart button.
In the main screen of Thunderbird
Press alt followed by V for the View Menu.
Today Pane subMenu T 1 of 3
Show Today Pane F11 checked o 1 of 1 level 1
Press enter on that item to uncheck it.
You’ll hear this message after unchecking that item:
alert Lightning will be removed the next time you restart Thunderbird.
You can add it again at any time using the Add-ons Manager.
You should restart ThunderBird at this point either by using alt F4 to
exit or pressing space bar on the restart button.
After you restart you’ll find that the Today and Calendar options that
were in the View menu have gone away.
In the main screen of Thunderbird
Press alt followed by v for the View Menu.
Toolbars subMenu T 1 of 3
I have all of the ToolBars in this section unchecked.
Layout subMenu L 2 of 3
Classic View radio menu item checked 1 of 3 level 1
Message Pane F8 not checked 3 of 3 level 1
The message pane is not something I use, you can toggle it on or off
by pressing F8 from within Thunderbird if you want to use it.
To get to Thunderbird’s Options from the main screen press alt,
followed by t for tools then o for options.
General 1 of 8
When Thunderbird launches, show the Start Page in the message area
check box not checked
When new messages arrive: grouping
Show an alert check box not checked
Show a tray icon check box not checked
Play a sound check box checked
Display 2 of 8
Advanced tab selected 3 of 3
Open messages in: grouping
A new message window radio button checked 2 of 3
Composition 3 of 8
General tab 1 of 3
Confirm when using keyboard shortcut to send message check box not checked
Composition 3 of 8
Spelling tab 3 of 3
Check spelling before sending check box checked
Enable spell check as you type check box not checked
Those few changes should make a big difference in the accessibility of
Thunderbird.

[Ai] Vivaldi Web Browser For Windows Adds Accessibility Features For The Visually Impaired.

2017-08-16 Thread soloman s via Ai
Vivaldi Web Browser For Windows Adds Accessibility Features For The
Visually Impaired.
James Oates On August 11, 2017
There are many web browsers to choose from when working on a Windows
machine, but some are more accessible than others when the user has a
visual impairment. Fortunately, Vivaldi has recognized that
accessibility improvements needed to be added to their browser.
Vivaldi has added a light or dark theme, text sizing, font chooser,
and keyboard shortcuts. A full list of the enhancements is listed
below:
Accessibility Features
Advanced Reader Mode is the first new feature mentioned on the
official launch post where the readers will now get a neat and clutter
free reading experience. Vivaldi 1.11 lets the users enable Reader
Mode from their browser settings. The Reader Mode further lets the
user select a light or dark background, font type, and the text size.
Some new themes with minimal contrasts are also introduced in Vivaldi
1.11 so as to help the readers with visual impairments.
Vivaldi also adds a feature of turning Off the GIF animations in its
new version. So, the people who don’t like the annoying flashing
images on their browser can actually turn it off easily from the
Toggle Images icon in the Status Bar.
Next feature added in the latest version of Vivaldi is the Adjustable
Mouse Gesture sensitivity, where users can execute a command with a
very simple and small movement of their mouse. Furthermore, the users
now get more control over their mouse and can set their own stroke
length as per their convenience.
Other salient features of Vivaldi 1.11 include Spatial navigation,
Quick Commands and keyboard shortcuts and the ability to Zoom the
selected web pages.
Download Vivaldi for Windows here.

Re: [Ai] WANT TO DISABLE LAPTOP KEYBOARD in win.10.

2017-08-16 Thread Prajwal's Tech Zone via Ai
hello use this my artical its so simple my self prajwal keny blind
software tester .. now main point plese follo this steps with your
windows u8 system In certain cases, especially on some Laptops, the
built-in keyboard is extremely uncomfortable for multiple reasons,
leading to uncomfortable position , wrist pain and other bad
situations.
Perhaps you have an external keyboard you'd like to use, and you've
tried resting the external USB one on top, with the prongs extended to
tilt it, but however, when you do (with or without the prongs
extended) you may inevitably end up pressing keys on the built-in
keyboard.
Or even the built-keyboard has some keys that are stuck, and keep
pressing itself, thereby damaging some softwares. There might be a
number of reason you have for wanting to disable the built-in keyboard
and enable an external keyboard on Windows 8, but the important thing
is you can do. I'm going to show you how you can do this in a number
of ways.
Method - 1 Device manager
- On device manger in windows just right click the keyboard and disable it.
- To get to this, locate My computer and right click on it, then
select properties.
However in rare cases, especially on some Dell and HP laptops the
Device manager may be gray out and might not be available for
selection. If this is true in your case then this method is pretty
useless for you.
If the first method didn't work for you, and you want to completely
disable it then you will need to disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable,
this will be explained in the next step.
Method 2 Disconnect Keyboard cable
- This a sure way of getting what you want, disconnect the keyboard
cable. On every laptop there is usually one cable that connects the
keyboard to the computer, the cable is usually covered by screws.
- With a screw driver losen the keyboard screws with the objective of
partially dismantling and removing the keyboard (normally the keyboard
screws are marked on the underside of the laptop by a keyboard
symbol).- You'll see the cable, carefully trace it to its slot and
pull it out gently.
- With the cable unplugged you can tighten the keyboard back and plug
in your USB external keyboard.
How To Disable Internal Laptop Keyboard On Windows 8
There is another method simple yet effective method. This method
doesn't require you going to the device manager or disconnecting your
Laptop's keyboard.
Method 3 cover it
If your main priority is to put the USB keyboard untop the in built
keyboard without the keys pressing, then find a thing to cover it.
Something like a plate with a hallow. There are usually used in
computer stores to display laptops. Get something like that and use it
to cover the internal keyboard.

Re: [Ai] Help required in using NVDA

2017-08-16 Thread Bhavya shah via Ai
Hi,
The JAWS cursor equivalent in NVDA is a combination of review cursor,
object navigation and review modes. Please check the User Guide for
more details. NVDA does not offer specific levels of verbosity, but
the Symbol level part of the Punctuation/Symbol Pronunciation dialog
as well as the Document Formatting settings dialog provides relevant
options. I also recommend giving NVDA's User Guide a careful read.
Thanks.

obtained MIT certificates via this program).

About the Course

This course is run online over Skype. Students can be residing anywhere in
India.During this program, the students will be introduced to computer science
and programming concepts using Python, one of the most popular languages for
getting started with computer programming.  Vision-Aid program will use
material given to us by MIT Boston and other leading universities in USA.
Students in this Vision-Aid program will learn from the experts in the field

the deposit is to encourage students to stay committed to the course and
complete it. There is no minimum passing grade required for the refund – we
only expect regular and sincere participation to be eligible for
the full refund.

A student should apply to the course only if they are sure they can invest the
needed time. Once admitted a student MUST commit to attending all classes
regularly without exception. Any student who misses more than 2 classes without
prior written permission from the program coordinator will be automatically
dropped from the course and asked to reapply to the next round of classes, and
someone on the waitlist will be allocated their space.

here one thing everybody should understand if we hold white cane in
your hand anybody will come forward to help you, this I have noticed
in Delhi & bangalore, but unfortunately many totally blind persons are
also hesitating to hold white cane, one best example i came across on
9th August 2017 that is yesterday while crossing in ITO area of Delhi
I was holding white cane to cross the road a auto driver who was
waiting for passanger he himself came forward and helped me to cross
one of the busiest road of Delhi,, for poor blind persons white cane
is the only escort,

If anybody lives in denial, I cannot help it.

You get many kinds of cheap labour only because India is poor.
But it does not negate the need for such labour.

The case in point is how to convince reluctant parents that a totally
blind
person can travel safely, sometimes all alone, at other times with
reliable

assistance, but not necessarily of parents' choice.

As Mr Galani said: "Dependence is not undignified" I agree and I
believe in the practical notion of interdependence. We all whether
disabled or non-disabled are interdependent beings. But being a
disabled, accompanying escort certainly brings many uncomfortable
gazes about ones abilities and capabilities. I often wonder if India
was a rich developed country could blind people had afford escorts?
I've no qualm in writing on publick platform, its a blessing for blind
people that India is a poor country where cheap labour is available in
abundance. So if you're blind and you've job and little bit money you
can hire less educated, semi/unskilled attendant. Otherwise in the
fast growing world no one has time to say hy to non-disabled let alone
blind people. So poverty of others is a critical constituency which
enables blind people to take escort along. Otherwise, how many car
walas come out of their cars and help blind individuals? its rikshaw
pullers and auto wala uncles and near/distant relatives who are less
educated and out of formal job become escort.

On 8/8/17, Asudani, Rajesh via Ai
wrote:

Well, could not fully comprehend scholarly language.
But what I understood is that dependence is undignified.
So, be it, rather than risking unruly traffic and people.

Escort is not there to be interested in the activity or seminar I am
attending, but to catter to my needs arising out of my blindness.

Balanced way is to take help, wherever necessary.
Necessity may differ with background, specific situation and monetary
capacity.

Just sharing a sentence from a working paper which I've cited for
publication consideration. Colrege: (1999) while commenting about
youth with disabilities writes: 'what are the markers of being an
adult for an individual with disabilities, who is regarded as
dependent, in need of care and overprotected' (cited in Singal, 2008).
Now questions arise: In a growing age of hyper capitalism and
individual excellence, does dependence entails any degree of dignity?
And on a moral ground should our conscience allow us to always
accompany escort if he/she is not at all interested in the events
we're to attend? I've been to many seminars/conferences in Indian
cities and have found that many educated blind people bring escorts
who're least interested for the seminar. And then they demand
reimbursement for their travel cost on account of their blindness.

Re: [Ai] Higher Education options for VI outside India

2017-08-16 Thread Reach Now via Ai
Dear Vinod:

Your son can most definitely continue his education outside India as early as
class 11 or even sooner. Canada and the US are the best destinations since they
provide the finest facilities to visually impaired students in the world. Since
he is not eligible to enroll at a government school in both countries known as
public schools, you should perhaps consider admitting him to a private academy
also known as a prep school. There are more than one hundred schools for the
visually impaired in the US and Canada. Sadly, admission is restricted to US
citizens and permanent residents only unless the school has a special program
for international students in which case fees have to be paid. It is usually
preferable if a visually impaired child is mainstreamed right from the start at
an institution of education that provides a full spectrum of special support
services.

Sessions usually commence in August each year and end in either late May or
early June the following year. While not all prep schools have visually
impaired students on their rolls owing to the high cost of private school
education in the US or Canada even by local standards, some do and you might
want to pick a school that already has a few visually impaired children
studying there. This will ensure that all the required support services such as
readers, screen reader training, Braille, special sports and mobility are
already in place.

The other advantage of studying in a prep school is that most prep schools have
hostel facilities. This is not the case with public schools and students need
to commute daily to school. Many public schools in the US and Canada have
international student exchange programs where students live with a family for
one or two years called host families and ride the school bus to school.
However, statistics on the acceptance of visually impaired students in such
programs are dismal. Moreover, this arrangement tends to pose several
logistical challenges for the visually impaired child. In order to qualify,
your son may also have to take an American test conducted by the College Board
called the P-SAT.

You might also want to consider waiting for a few years and sending your son to
North America for an undergraduate college degree. This might be a better
option since all American and Canadian universities and colleges are legally
obligated to provide special services to visually impaired students thanks to a
law enacted in the seventies called Section 504 and its Canadian variation.
Additionally college education in the US can be considerably less expensive
than prep school education costs given the fact that there are many excellent
universities in the US that charge only$6000 - $7000 per year as annual tuition
with further deductions in fees due to scholarships. Work visa rules for
students have also been liberalized in the recent past in both countries for
international college students. Three year work visas are now being
automatically granted to eligible college students. All else being equal, the
US Embassy and the Canadian High Commission in India are not known to create
any barriers when the time arrives to issue student visas to visually impaired
applicants.

Please write to me off list if you need more information.

Rajesh from Noida

Overseas Education Consultant

 hi,

does the jaws OCR feature also read JPEG files? like a photo of a
 text-file?
i tried running a document OCR on it by pressing O and then D, but
 every
time there is a bell/ buzzer kinda thing that goes off, like its the
 wrong
 command.

so please let me know if there's a different command for texts in
 pictures.
 i don't mean a scanned document, I mean a photograph. the 1
that opens with windows photo viewer.
 I'm using jaws 16 with windows 7.
 thanks,

 Shireen.

An Exciting Program from Vision-Aid

Computer Programming Classes for the
Visually Disadvantaged

Applications for Fall Semester 2017 Open.

Limited Enrolment. Apply soon!

Overview

Are you a visually impaired person who wants to learn computer programming?
Vision-Aid is back with an exciting program to teach Python programming. After
successfully completing a pilot for teaching computer programming for the
visually impaired in 2016, and a follow on course in spring 2017, we are
thrilled to offer an even more comprehensive program in the fall semester of
2017.

Schedule

The fall session class begins on September 4, 2017 and ends on Dec 17, 2017.
The course will run for around 3.5 months, but can be completed in 3 months by
students who wish to accelerate the course and put in the required extra effort.

Opportunity to participate in Hackathon at IIT

Students who successfully complete the course will be invited to attend a
hackathon for the visually impaired at the Indian Institute of Technology,
Chennai in January 2018. All travel and lodging expenses for the conference
will be borne by IIT and Vision-Aid.

Financial Aid for MIT/Stanford Online Courses

For students successfully completing this program, Vision-Aid will offer
scholarships and mentorship, to pursue advanced programming courses from
MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Stanford Universities in the US
via the edX and Coursera platforms. (Note: 4 prior students have successfully
obtained MIT certificates via this program).

About the Course

During this program, the students will be introduced to computer science and
programming concepts using Python, one of the most popular languages for
getting started with computer programming. Vision-Aid program will use
material given to us by MIT Boston and other leading universities in USA.
Students in this Vision-Aid program will learn from the experts in the field
using the best online learning resources. The classes will be offered over
SKYPE. Each student will be paired with a teacher who will work with the
student to guide them through the course material. The course will have a
midterm and final exam. Students who complete the course will be awarded with a
Vision-Aid certificate in Programming.

Cost

Vision-Aid is pleased to offer this course free of cost to the students.
However, each admitted student will be expected to pay an advance deposit of
Rs. 1,000 (One Thousand Rupees). If the student attends classes regularly and
completes the entire course, the deposit will be fully refunded. The purpose of
the deposit is to encourage students to stay committed to the course and
complete it. There is no minimum passing grade required for the refund - we
only expect regular and sincere participation to be eligible for
the full refund.

Admission Criteria

No prior computer programming experience is necessary but some pre-requisites
do apply. The application form will outline these pre-requisites. After receipt
of your application, Vision-Aid will conduct an assessment and enroll qualified
students.

Time Commitment

This course is an intense programming course. It will require a minimum of
10-15 hours of study and homework each week. Students who do not put in the
required time and effort may find it difficult to complete the course and
master the concepts. Regular attendance and time commitment are very important.

Why you should join?

We believe in training the students so they can be lifelong learners, and reach
their highest potential. We encourage and guide our students to participate in
Hackathons such as the Shaastra, IIT Madras Tech
Festival in Chennai. (For a short film about the 2017 hackathon in IIT, please

Dear friend, by your logic a woman should also get that right, to have
the right of polygamy. Would you agree? It's a question of one's right
to say no, you don't get a right to have sex whenever you feel like, a
woman may not want to have sex at the same time every time for a
thousand reasons, you must respect her wish. Why don't people
understand that every individual has his/ her right to what they want
or do not want. Getting married doesn't give you a right to treat your
wife as your servant, you cannot treat even your servant that way now.
Best.

It can be a need, duty and hunger but it cannot be forced. The wife has
to

be willing. If it is forced, it is rape in my book. Please remember, the
wife too is human with dignity, feelings, moods, desires etc. She is not
a
commodity one purchases. If husband and wife live as mature adults with
love

and respect for each other, there is no need to go to court.

HI George sir, and dear friends,, can you make me clear that what is sex
all

about? Is it need or duty after marrege or hunger of a person? Can a man
challange ever his wife in a court about sex needs? if not at all, then
man

should have been aworded the right of multiple marrege. So I agree fully

Just to make a small observation:

  1. Even if a husband forces himself on his wife if the wife is not
willing, in my understanding it amounts to rape. Strange as it may sound.

  2. Even if two adults are having regular sex for two years if the guy
forces himself on the woman when she is not willing, it is rape.

Lawyers on the list could check this out!
