[all-audio] XLR adaptability

2018-06-19 Thread frank cuta
Hosa makes a great dual XLR to eighth inch mini stereo plug cable about
ten feet long which works great with a pair of AKG C1000 condensers and a
Plextalk 2. I am sure it would work well with the Olympus as well if it has
an external mic input.

Only my 2 cents worth.
A good general purpose recorder it seems though for the money I think I'd
rather purchase an Olympus LS-P4 which seems to sell for around the same
amount of money.
For those who have not seen an Olympus LS-P4 the buttons are very well laid
out and tactile marks are used for quick identification of function keys.
I'm not worried that recorders at this price level don't have XLR
connectivity as we're not talking professional studio recorders here anyway
and the inclusion of XLR connectors usually make for a larger recorder
because of the size of the actual connectors themselves.

[all-audio] Professional mics

2018-06-19 Thread frank cuta
A better full range mic is my pair of AT4041 but for on location recording
I will stick with my C1000 large diaphrams because they offer optional
battery portability.

Not to meantion 14 has smart mode. Which isn't perfect, but when it
works vbro it's awesome. That's why I wish they had put XLRs on it. Then
youwould be all set. But yeah the mikes on the 100 are better frequencie
responce wize. But I don't bother with the 3 mikes on my 14 so much. I
just use my real mike. The Audio Technica AT-8022. But dude if the LS 14
had XLRs like the 100 does then you could use the 4021 mikes. Which hear
full range. From 20 Hz to full 20 KHZ. The 8022 only goes up to 15. Or
better yet you could use a pare of 4022 omni mikes in spaced omni
configuration or the Rode NT-5 mikes that can be cardiode or omni.

Re: [all-audio] Enjoy The Dove

2018-06-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
To be honest I've not seen this documented well anywhere.
The manual may reference this in a diagram perhaps but no verbal description
exists.
I stumbled across this whilst playing about with the recorder when trying to
set the time.

Okay.
During clock set use the F3 key to toggle between 12 and 24 hour clock mode.
The recorder won’t announce which mode its in but you’ll know by using the
up/down keys to move between the hours, if you’re in 24-hour mode you’ll hear
values lead out larger than 12 obviously.

Re: [all-audio] Another Olympus recorder question:

2018-06-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
Only my 2 cents worth.
A good general purpose recorder it seems though for the money I think I’d
rather purchase an Olympus LS-P4 which seems to sell for around the same amount
of money.
For those who have not seen an Olympus LS-P4 the buttons are very well laid out
and tactile marks are used for quick identification of function keys.
I’m not worried that recorders at this price level don’t have XLR connectivity
as we’re not talking professional studio recorders here anyway and the
inclusion of XLR connectors usually make for a larger recorder because of the
size of the actual connectors themselves.

Re: [all-audio] Enjoy The Dove

2018-06-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
Smart mode isn’t everything.
The LS-P4 has a solution, you can normalise the recording.
If you’re not sure where to set the level for your recording then set the level
to a fairly low value.
Start your recording and - if necessary - apply the normalise function to the
recording when finished.
As you will hear with my capture of the Dove, the ‘Auto” mode does a pretty
good job for most things.

Olympus should address, in 12-hour mode no indication is given of AM or

Of corse olympus continued the work after the dm4, they done the dm7 wich have
improvements there. Example, on dm4 you had to switch a setting on wich allow
file names to be spoken, but with dm7 there is no such thing, it just works. It
read everything even the password for wifi.

Yes your correct Dane and I am returning the ls-p1.

There doesn't seem to be voice guidance.

Really unfortunate because it would have met my needs if it did.

Oh well at least I can get my money back.

Off to check out the eltrinex.

As per your question regarding TTS? I’ll need some help on this but to my

It is a pity that Olympus never continued on with the good work of the DM4 to

Re: [all-audio] Enjoy The Dove

2018-06-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
I’ve never owned a LS-14 so can’t comment.
I tried to purchase a Ls-14 initially but that model has long since been
discontinued so I was offered the LS-P4 as a substitute and I’m very glad I
decided to order it.
Now as for a statement made earlier in this discussion by one of the other
participants.
The LS-P1 and the LS-P4 are exactly the same recorder, the only difference is
that the P1 doesn’t have Voice Guidance or Bluetooth.
As far as I’m aware the P2 has also been discontinued.

Intresting as mine never had any issues. But yes the p4 sounds nicer
as it have metal and they brought back the random for the music
player. I will get the zoom h1n for now and then consider lsp4.

I hope I’m wrong, I think the LS-P1 is one of Those that don’t have

As I understand it the LS-P1 is the model down from the LS-p2 and lacks
some of the functionality of the P2 including Voice Guidance.
As per your question regarding TTS? I’ll need some help on this but to my
knowledge the DM4 was one of the few Olympus recorders to have a fully
fledged TTS built-in so that’s why that particular model was able to
handle so much more in the form of Daisy books and so on.
It is a pity that Olympus never continued on with the good work of the
DM4 to finish the job but there we are.

Re: [all-audio] Another Olympus recorder question:

2018-06-19 Thread Aidan
Of corse olympus continued the work after the dm4, they done the dm7
wich have improvements there. Example, on dm4 you had to switch a
setting on wich allow file names to be spoken, but with dm7 there is
no such thing, it just works. It read everything even the password for
wifi.

 Hi listers,

Eagerly awaiting the arrival tomorrow of my ls-p1 recorder and had one
 question.

Does the ls-p series actually contain a text to speech synthesizer as I
am told the olympus dm-4 does?

I ask because I would like to give names to the folders on the recorder
and possibly create new ones and have their names spoken.

 Thanks in advance.
