Actually, now that I have reinstalled the src.rpm package of hotplug
8_26_2002 (from sourceforge), I do get both the 2 midi ports and audio
(crashes still occur). I've now discovered two more interesting issues:
1) Upon booting and installing the midisport 2x2 for the first time
(regardless whethe
i haven't had time today to get the patch for the hdsp ready. however,
the new source works here (i have some CVS sync issues). i'll get it
out to the list on monday (i'm gone for the weekend).

yes. the script there was a bit old and now you don't need
load/unload snd-usb-midi.
