Who decides when a driver can be moved into alsa-kernel/ ? Is there any
formal process envolved or is it just a matter of "... yeah, this driver
doesnt crash, let it in..." ? Who is the 'boss' about this matter ?

I'm now working with a VIA 8235 chip set (or at least that's what
'alsamixer' says). My problems:
I'm using 'aplay' to play a 4 channel '.wav' file (aplay -D surround40
xxx.wav) and I'm having trouble getting the rear chann
I've seen this interesting device and would like to know if it is
supported in any way.

(I don't know if it's a bug in quadra, alsa or the linux kernel.)
With kernel 2.4.20 + alsa 0.9.0rc6 everything went fine.
With kernel 2.4.21 + alsa 0.9.6 all my applications keep on playing sounds except
quadra (tried at least xmms, mpg123, mplayer and xblast).
