I'm not an expert, but this sounds like something out of a default asoundrc
that involves ttables. To me that means that you would need to use
LD_PRELOAD, etc. For what it's worth, anyway...

worked without using the ch4dup bit from .asoundrc... xmms worked fine,
with both the Alsa output plugin and the OSS plugin.

now i did a very quick-n-dirty hack, the recipe was finished in 15
minutes. can you try the attached patch?
