I have a Creative PCI 512 (CT4790) running under a 2.6 kernel and Alsa
1.0.12rc1. I can capture sound using the microphone with no problem,
but I find that the microphone input only plays back on the speakers and
not over headphones. I've tried several different sets of headphones so

I've unearthed a bit of a clue. For some reason, the resolution setting is
getting passed as a channel setting.
When I set the resolution to 3, I get this output from amixer
