Is there a way to use the channels of adat1 for example independently?
I want to use channel 1 and 2 for alsaplayer and channel 3 and 4 for another

Now I only have 2 devices /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p and /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c
I tried the asoundrc example on the alsa-project site with type multi

Does it work if not running X? What about playing a WAV file with aplay.
Don't run X. Just try:

It's good to know if the NVdriver has anything to do with it.
My setup is almost identical to yours and I don't have problems similar to
yours. Truth is I am using the newer nvidia dr

The "c" and "p" and the end of the device name stands for "capture" and
"playback". So for I can see you only have one card (C0) and one device
in the card (D0) with 2 channels 1 for playback and 1 for capture (or 2
for playback and 2 for capture. Please read the explanation below). You

Hi, i download the source tree by CVS but a 'make' dies a horrible dead.
take a look:
sparc64-linux-gcc -D__KERNEL__ -DMODULE=1
-I/usr/src/packages/SOURCES/alsacvs/alsa-driver/include
-I/lib/modules/2.2.20/build/include -O2 -m64 -pipe -mno-fpu
-mcpu=ultrasparc -mcmodel=medlow -ffixed-g4 -fcal
Well there was a ./configure in the alsa-kernel so i tried to build it with
./configure --with-cards=cs4231 --with-oss=no --with-isapnp=no
make
and i got:
make[2]: Entering directory
`/usr/src/packages/SOURCES/alsacvs/alsa-driver/isa/cs423x'
sparc64-linux-gcc -D__KERNEL__ -DMODULE=1

Hi everyone. Though some of the following is Debian

I spent roughly three weeks trying to get ALSA to work
on my system. I have sound, but quirks in ALSA are
driving me nuts. Let me explain what has happened thus

Hello everyone,
Here's something else I've come across since I have
installed Alsa 0.9. Any sound that is sampled in
8-bit sounds loud and distorted. I noticed this when
playing samples, in certian games, etc. Is there
anyway to fix this?
My system is running kernel 2.2.19, Debian Woody,

I rebooted, and tried used aplay to play a sound, and it did not crash, though
I still did not hear anything. So I tried launching into X using the stock nv
driver rather then the accelerated nbvidia driver, still no luck with aplay,
but xmms locked up the machine again.
I rebooted and tried a

Hi,
I have two soundcards in my PC. One is a Terratec DMX Xfire using cs46xx and
the other is an onboard cmipci thing. I conifgured alsa to get the cmipci as
card 0 and the cs46xx thing as card1. There are a couple of things I'd like
to have but th
I have an old HP Omnibook 800CT laptop, and am having some trouble
getting quality sound out of ALSA 0.9.0rc6.
System Particulars:
o Distro: Debian 3.0r0 (woody)
o Kernel: 2.4.18; devfs enabled
o Sound chip: ESS1887/1888
o ALSA distro: 0.9.0rc6
You need to define sound-services for the second card in modules.conf.
It should look something like this:
xyz@localhost#pico /etc/modules.conf
# ALSA portion
alias snd-card-0 snd-cs46xx
alias snd-card-1 snd-cmipci
options snd-cmipci id="first" enable_midi=
