The "c" and "p" and the end of the device name stands for "capture" and "playback". So for I can see you only have one card (C0) and one device in the card (D0) with 2 channels 1 for playback and 1 for capture (or 2 for playback and 2 for capture. Please read the explanation below). I rebooted, and tried used aplay to play a sound, and it did not crash, though I still did not hear anything. So I tried launching into X using the stock nv driver rather then the accelerated nbvidia driver, still no luck with aplay, but xmms locked up the machine again. I rebooted and tried a
