[Alsa-user] Intel HD Audio (ALC662, Realtek) on Intel D945GCLF2
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I've got a Intel D945GCLF2 with Intel HD Audio (ALC662, Realtek). I am running gentoo (x86) and have installed alsa-1.0.21. Updating alsa to 1.0.22 doesn't help either. After upgrading from linux-2.6.30 to .32 sound recording doesn't work any more. I have two applications which are trying to read input from "Line-In". One application records from the input, the other one streams the same input over the net (icecast/ices). Both applications were able to access the "Line-In" input via alsa device "default" using the older kernel. Maybe device labelling changed since then? Alsamixer is set correctly, "Input Source" is set to "Line". After the upgrade there is an additional input "Input Source 1". Maybe this has something to do with the problem? I can hear the input sound when I connect a headphone. Both applications do not report any error, icecast shows the stream, when I try to access the stream, mplayer quits without any error message. Do you have any hints how devices are labeled or what is going wrong here? Thanks a lot in advance, Martin table of contents [1] # arecord -l [2] # ./alsa-info.sh [3] parts of #lspci -vvnn [4] /proc/asound/card0/codec#2 [1] # arecord -l List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 [2] # ./alsa-info.sh !! !!ALSA Information Script v 0.4.58 !! !!Script ran on: Sun Feb 7 12:23:37 UTC 2010 !!Linux Distribution !!-- Gentoo Base System release 1.12.13 !!DMI Information !!--- Manufacturer: Product Name: !!Kernel Information !!-- Kernel release:2.6.32-gentoo-r3-2 Operating System: GNU/Linux Architecture: i686 Processor: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 330 @ 1.60GHz SMP Enabled: Yes !!ALSA Version !! [Alsa-user] [snd-hda-intel] VIA VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (Realtek ALC662) bug/problem discovered by using PulseAudio
Dear ALSA users, please tell me if I should open a ticket for this issue in the ALSA bugtracking system. Using PulseAudio (PA) playing sound works without problems but running a program accessing the microphone (`gnome-volume-control`, `empathy` doing voice calls, …) causes high CPU loads of PulseAudio. I reported this to the PulseAudio tracker as ticket #758 [1]. Debugging this further this led to the following debug message by PA [2]. $ pulseaudio -k # `autospawn = 0` in `~/.pulse/client.conf` $ LANG=C pulseaudio -v # `gnome-volume-control` started in other terminal. ConsoleKit messages removed. […] I: alsa-source.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 361.50 ms W: ratelimit.c: 52071 events suppressed D: memblock.c: Pool full D: memblock.c: Pool full D: memblock.c: Pool full D: memblock.c: Pool full I: alsa-source.c: Overrun! […] Searching for this error message on the WWW suggested that this is related to the ALSA driver and somewhere it was suggested to load the module with the option `position_fix=1`. $ more /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf options snd_hda_intel position_fix=1 After this change programs accessing the microphone do not cause high CPU loads anymore [3]. Is that the correct way to fix this problem? Is a quirk for my chip needed to enable this option automatically? I did not find a section for VIA chips in `HD-Audio-Models.txt` [4] as suggested on the »Help To Debug Intel HDA« wiki page [5]. But this appears to be not needed anyways since I am actually using a Realtek ALC662 codec chip [6]. I am using Debian Sid/unstable with the following Linux kernel $ uname -a Linux name 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jan 10 07:51:13 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux but a 32-bit userspace with `libasound2` 1.0.21a-1 installed. You will find further information about my system at the end of this message. *Dear Alsa Team!* My name is Christoph Pittamitz and like Pandu P. Rakimanputra I just bought the new Focusrite Saffire 6 USB device. Re: [Alsa-user] [LAU] How to make Focusrite Saffire 6 USB works?
Hi Paul, I've posted my dmesg output from my linux on my previous email. But it's okey if someone ask me to send again :) Hi Christoph, Good to know there are another friend using the focusrite. I emailed focusrite team, and they haven't tested with linux. They also admitted that saffire 6 USB isn't plug'n play (even for OS X machine). They includes OS X & Windows driver. I think you should email focusrite team, asked them to release driver for linux, or if they Can't, just relase some of Hardware Abstraction Layer, so Alsa developer can create driver. Anyway, Thanks for all, I'm still waiting for focusrite saffire driver. After modprobing the driver what does modinfo tell you? What's new in dmesg? Is there any evidence elsewhere that this device is supported? When I look here http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main I don't see anything from Focusrite listed. Maybe it's an off-brand version of some other card? - Mark -- The Planet: dedicated and managed hosting, cloud storage, colocation Stay online with enterprise data centers and the best network in the business Choose flexible plans and management services without long-term contracts Personal 24x7 support from experience hosting pros just a phone call away. http://p.sf.net/sfu/theplanet-com ___ Alsa-user mailing list Alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
[Alsa-user] how do you edit hda pins and nodes?
Hello, I have a Thinkpad R61i with the Conexant CX20549 HDA codec. A lot of the controls are wrongly wired, with showstopping consequences, such as not being able to change the mic capture level, resulting in intolerable distortion. To get round this I rolled my own kernel with hwdep enabled and used hda-analyzer to tweak what had to be tweaked. Unfortunately hda-analyzer would always download its own latest version from git, and right now the version in git is broken. I have tried a snapshot of an older version, but that doesn't work either. Therefore I am going to need to do this manually. I can see the values I need to change in /proc/asound/intel/codec#0. The trouble is that I cannot for the life of me work out how to change them. Could anyone help me? Many thanks Robert -- The Planet: dedicated and managed hosting, cloud storage, colocation Stay online with enterprise data centers and the best network in the business Choose flexible plans and management services without long-term contracts Personal 24x7 support from experience hosting pros just a phone call away. http://p.sf.net/sfu/theplanet-com___ Alsa-user mailing list Alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
[Alsa-user] virtual sound card definition
Hello, is it possible to define virtual sound card, which would be listed by "aplay -l" and "aplay -L" ? And how ? Most apps do NOT let me define concrete PCM device to use and some apps are using direct "hw:x,y" - so workaround with different "default" per app don't help too. Thanks for help. --kapetr -- The Planet: dedicated and managed hosting, cloud storage, colocation Stay online with enterprise data centers and the best network in the business Choose flexible plans and management services without long-term contracts Personal 24x7 support from experience hosting pros just a phone call away. http://p.sf.net/sfu/theplanet-com ___ Alsa-user mailing list Alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
