[Alsa-user] Intel HD Audio (ALC662, Realtek) on Intel D945GCLF2

Hi,

I've got a Intel D945GCLF2 with Intel HD Audio (ALC662, Realtek).
I am running gentoo (x86) and have installed alsa-1.0.21. Updating alsa
to 1.0.22 doesn't help either.

After upgrading from linux-2.6.30 to .32 sound recording doesn't work
any more. I have two applications which are trying to read input from
"Line-In".
One application records from the input, the other one streams the same
input over the net (icecast/ices).
Both applications were able to access the "Line-In" input via alsa
device "default" using the older kernel.
Maybe device labelling changed since then?

Alsamixer is set correctly, "Input Source" is set to "Line". After the
upgrade there is an additional input "Input Source 1". Maybe this has
something to do with the problem?

I can hear the input sound when I connect a headphone.

Both applications do not report any error, icecast shows the stream,
when I try to access the stream, mplayer quits without any error message.

Do you have any hints how devices are labeled or what is going wrong here?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Martin

thanks to the help of DireFog on the ALSA IRC-channel, I verified that I
have a chip from Realtek with »ALC662« written on it [3] on my ASUS
M2V-MX SE board [2]. So in my case the correct modules are loaded.

According to DireFog (if I understood him correctly) the PCI-IDs do not
help in determining the codec since those (CODEC) chips are no PCI
devices and hooked up directly to the chipset.

Just for the record. Booting with a 686-Linux did not make any
difference.

[Alsa-user] [snd-hda-intel] VIA VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (Realtek ALC662) bug/problem discovered by using PulseAudio

2010-02-07 Thread Paul Menzel
Dear ALSA users,

please tell me if I should open a ticket for this issue in the ALSA
bugtracking system.

Using PulseAudio (PA) playing sound works without problems but running a
program accessing the microphone (`gnome-volume-control`, `empathy`
doing voice calls, …) causes high CPU loads of PulseAudio.

I reported this to the PulseAudio tracker as ticket #758 [1]. Debugging
this further this led to the following debug message by PA [2].

$ pulseaudio -k # `autospawn = 0` in `~/.pulse/client.conf`
$ LANG=C pulseaudio -v # `gnome-volume-control` started in
other terminal. ConsoleKit messages removed.
[…]
I: alsa-source.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 361.50 ms
W: ratelimit.c: 52071 events suppressed
D: memblock.c: Pool full
D: memblock.c: Pool full
D: memblock.c: Pool full
D: memblock.c: Pool full
I: alsa-source.c: Overrun!
[…]

Searching for this error message on the WWW suggested that this is
related to the ALSA driver and somewhere it was suggested to load the
module with the option `position_fix=1`.

$ more /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf
options snd_hda_intel position_fix=1

After this change programs accessing the microphone do not cause high
CPU loads anymore [3].

Is that the correct way to fix this problem? Is a quirk for my chip
needed to enable this option automatically?

I did not find a section for VIA chips in `HD-Audio-Models.txt` [4] as
suggested on the »Help To Debug Intel HDA« wiki page [5]. But this
appears to be not needed anyways since I am actually using a Realtek
ALC662 codec chip [6].

I am using Debian Sid/unstable with the following Linux kernel

$ uname -a
Linux name 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jan 10 07:51:13 UTC 2010
x86_64 GNU/Linux

but a 32-bit userspace with `libasound2` 1.0.21a-1 installed.

You will find further information about my system at the end of this
message.

Thanks,

Paul

Re: [Alsa-user] [LAU] How to make Focusrite Saffire 6 USB works?

2010-02-07 Thread Christoph Pittamitz
*Dear Alsa Team!*

My name is Christoph Pittamitz and like Pandu P. Rakimanputra I just bought
the new Focusrite Saffire 6 USB device.
The same problem occurred to me: The light indicator for connecting via usb
didn't light on. Ubuntu doesn't detect the device as a sound device (as you
can see in the result of cat /proc/asound/cards).

As you asked pandu to send you his system specs I'm going to do this right
away. My alsa version is 1.0.20.

Maybe you have any advice for me how to fix this problem, however I would
really like to use the saffire 6 with tha alsa driver :)
Thanks for the help,

I am no developer. But I think they need more information as the output
of `dmesg`. They have a tool to generate that information [1].

[Alsa-user] Problem with Gigabyte H55M-S2H Motherboard with Intel HDMI sound

2010-02-07 Thread jgmtfia Mr
I am having a problem with HDMI audio on a Gigabyte H55M-S2H
motherboard. No matter what I try, I cannot get sound to the attached
TV over the HDMI link.

I think that the drivers are in place, and I don't get any errors when
trying different playback methods, I just don't get sound from the TV.

I have tried/checked:

a. the mixer settings.
b. various playback methods
   mythtv
   mplayer
   aplay
c. various distributions (ubuntu 9.10, Fedora 12)
d. various asound.conf's the web has to offer
e. removed pulseaudio so that myth-22 would start

Re: [Alsa-user] [LAU] How to make Focusrite Saffire 6 USB works?

2010-02-07 Thread Pandu Rakimanputra
Hi Paul,
I've posted my dmesg output from my linux on my previous email. But it's okey
if someone ask me to send again :)

Hi Christoph,
Good to know there are another friend using the focusrite. I emailed focusrite
team, and they haven't tested with linux. They also admitted that saffire 6 USB
isn't plug'n play (even for OS X machine). They includes OS X & Windows driver.
I think you should email focusrite team, asked them to release driver for
linux, or if they Can't, just relase some of Hardware Abstraction Layer, so
Alsa developer can create driver.

Anyway,

Thanks for all, I'm still waiting for focusrite saffire driver.

Pandu

I am no developer. But I think they need more information as the output
of `dmesg`. They have a tool to generate that information [1].

Thanks,

Paul

By 'nothing happened' do you mean that lsmod doesn't show the module
or that sound didn't start working? After modprobing the driver what
does modinfo tell you? What's new in dmesg?

Is there any evidence elsewhere that this device is supported? When I look here

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main

I don't see anything from Focusrite listed. Maybe it's an off-brand
version of some other card?

[Alsa-user] how do you edit hda pins and nodes?

2010-02-07 Thread Robert Persson
Hello,

I have a Thinkpad R61i with the Conexant CX20549 HDA codec. A lot of the
controls are wrongly wired, with showstopping consequences, such as not
being able to change the mic capture level, resulting in intolerable
distortion.

To get round this I rolled my own kernel with hwdep enabled and used
hda-analyzer to tweak what had to be tweaked. Unfortunately hda-analyzer
would always download its own latest version from git, and right now the
version in git is broken. I have tried a snapshot of an older version, but
that doesn't work either. Therefore I am going to need to do this manually.

I can see the values I need to change in /proc/asound/intel/codec#0. The
trouble is that I cannot for the life of me work out how to change them.
Could anyone help me?

Many thanks
Robert

[Alsa-user] virtual sound card definition

2010-02-07 Thread kapetr
Hello,

is it possible to define virtual sound card, which would be listed by
"aplay -l" and "aplay -L" ? And how ?

Most apps do NOT let me define concrete PCM device to use and some apps
are using direct "hw:x,y" - so workaround with different "default" per
app don't help too.

Thanks for help.
