Hi all,
ALSA 1.0.18 final packages (driver, lib, utils, tools, plugins)
are available for download at http://www.alsa-project.org . The list of
changes is on these links:
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Changes_v1.0.18rc3_v1.0.18
I'm setting up ALSA to allow for multiple non root users to
similtanously access audio (meaning I'm using dmix).
I've been doing some reading and it seems I need to do the following.
1) ipc_perms to 0666 (or similar to allow non root access)
2) ipc_key_add_uid to false
3) chmod the files
I am getting the following compile error on 1.0.18 utils. 1.0.17 did not
use this xlmto command.
Below that it shows that xmlto brings in a BUNCH of other packages as
dependencies. is xmlto needed? Can I get around it?
Also the ./configure does not tell me xmlto does not exist.

I have Generic 10de NVIDIA MCP78 HDMI
and want to turn on digital audio over the HDMI.
I ran alsamixer and unmuted IEC958.
I then did aplay wavefile.wav
I heard no audio.
Is there something else I need to do?
all other items are unmuted volume is good levels.

We use the capture input over the jackd server. With the linux
kernel 2.6.15.x and the echoaudio echo3g
I can't say for sure if it is 10 input/outputs. There is a break-out box
with a (i think) firewire cable and 6 tele plug inputs and 2 balanced
48v phantom mic. inputs and a couple of rca inputs. It also have two
MIDI in/out ports. It also have an RIA filter input for grammophone and

All,
I'm using a Roland UA-1EX
(http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=743) and
using the optical out.
I'm having some very basic surround sound issues, I believe.
Doing a simple speaker-test -c 6 I see the following output:

Hey I have noticed that in shared mode that the center is very very low. I
have to put my ear on the speaker and I can just barely hear anything. The
other speakers in my 5.1 setup are working as normal and I am controlling the
master volume via softvol in the asoundrc (as well as the routing
