Hi --
I'm building a test system. It will run linux (probably FC7) It needs to
generate SPDIF over both copper and optical. Can anyone recommend a card?

PS I tried the EMU 0404 with alsa 1.0.15 and some patches but it does not work
so well. From what I can see on the web, others
I have the exact same problem. Is there a solution? I am on fc7 (2.6.23.1) and

Okay, I have a custom 2.6.23.8 kernel with sound enabled, but alsa
disabled (see below).
I have build all of alsa from source using aabuild
And still I get (the same) errors. Any hints? How can I tell if the
firmware got installed? Does this card need firmware? I see fw
files.
a tool called gettextize which I have never seen.
Anyone know where to get it?

How do I get ALSA to pass an ac3 file through to my receiver? I want the
receiver to decode it, not my PC.
Thanks

Interestingly, when I use mplayer to decode my DTS test file and play
via SPDIF, it comes out distorted. If I tell mplayer to use DTS
passthrough on the same file, it sounds perfect.
What is mplayer transcoding/decoding the audio to? Is it still trying to
use the HW decoder to play a file that
I haven't reset/resync'd the receiver at all, but when I switch to
decoded audio the receiver displays 'PCM' instead of 'DTS', so it is
detecting the change.
I would not be surprised if 'DTS' means AC3 and 'PCM' means anything
else (isn't PCM headerless?).
Is mplayer transcoding to PCM?
I needed spdif output over both optical and RCA and I settled on an
EMU0404 card that I got through guitarcenter.com
I have not gotten AC3 passthru to work yet though, just PCM

I'm trying to get AC3 passthru to work. Do I need to build/install any
firmware for this card to get this to work?
Fedora core 10
Alsa 1.0.19 all built from source
