Re: [Alsa-user] Volume Control for Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

2021-12-14 Thread Terry O'Connor
I just wanted to thank everybody for getting back to me with thoughts on
this. I was able to resolve the issue.

I found out our stream *decoder *was amplifying! That server isn't
maintained by me, so I didn't know. We removed that, and everything sounds
great.

It would be nice to have a USB audio device that I can have more control
with in ALSA, but my current setup is now working fine.

Thanks again,

-Terry

Re: [Alsa-user] Volume Control for Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

2021-12-10 Thread Terry O'Connor
Thanks for the link to the GUI, I'll give that a look. I agree that it
seems I shouldn't need Scarlett volume control (outside of what's on the
box). The sound is clean going into the 2i2, and sounds good when I plug
headphones into the 2i2. I've got the gain turned all the way down, too.

I'll keep digging around, and reply with the solution when I figure it out.

Thanks again,

Terry

Hi,

this is a class compliant device, hence there are usually no volume
controls at all.

For a 1st generation 2i2 a mixer is available, see
https://github.com/x42/scarlett-mixer . It might work with a 2nd and
3rd generation 2i2, too.

It's a long time ago that I tested it with a 2nd generation 18i20, but
it didn't work for this device.

However, there's absolutely no need at all for Scarlett mixer volume
controls, unless you want to rout for monitoring purpose. Loudness and
distortion are caused by something, that is wrong with your setup, so
you need to fix that.

Regards,
Ralf

Try amixer on it and read the man page. The controls may have just not
matched anything in alsamixer.
