For example, my monthly run on tape Monthly3 failed completely and
didn't even finish the estimates. It did write the first header though,
so last months dumps are gone.
But now it is asking for Monthly1.
I want to rerun the

Um, no, I hadn't spotted my second typo!
That explains why correcting the first typo didn't change the behaviour at
all, it STILL couldn't find the device.

Now, amlabel works :)
So, I'm now labelling the 9 tapes (I'll try to remember not to label the

Hello all,
How does the holding disk work in amanda with relation to dumping to
tape? Specifically, does Amanda wait for all filesystems to be spooled
before it starts dumping to tape? Does amanda start dumping to tape
while it is still spooling the filesystems to the holding disk?
Which is
Nigel,
I believe the only problem with labeling the cleaning tape
is that you can't readilly check the tape label. Cleaning
tapes are really physical device that emulate the SW device
/dev/null, useful for some applications. That is what they

No. Yes.

I installed Amanda, mtx to control and L9 and backup the box.
Amanda is workign perfect, and mtx work perfect. But when I try

I've been running amanda 2.4.1p1 under Irix 6.5.x for several years now

Hi,
I've used Amanda before in a Unix-only shop, but now am interested in
backing up Win32 clients.
I see Amanda.Org still seems to hold the official line of use smbclient
to backup Win32 clients, but there's a port of Amanda client to Win32

Don't know if this is useful to you or not, but I just (two days ago)
downloaded installed 2.4.2p2 from freeware.sgi.com with no problems
under 6.5.18m it works great!
If you do this, you'll at least need (based on the conflicts I had):
fw_amanda-2.4.2p2.tardist
