Hi all,Is it possible to tune the estimate phase of a backup run? We appearto be getting NFS timeouts experienced by our NFS clients during theestimate phase when the NFS server is getting backed up.
The going theory is this that during the estimation phase, amanda isdoing a gtar|gzip -c

Has anyone devised a way to force hw compression off on a similar setup ?

Using 2.5.0p1 I can't restore any files from holding disk. The

How are you forcing the dumps to stay in holding disk?
May be the taper error could be a consequence of that.
In amanda.conf:

0 19 * * 1-4 /usr/local/sbin/amdump genepi

Perhaps amrecover has an error handler that if the tapedevice is not
available, even if it ultimatly will not be needed, causes it to abort.
Try running amrecover with the fridaytape link present.
No joy, same problem.

That should work but it will likely come back on after a restart though.
